Meet Ray Remington | Writer & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ray Remington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ray, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always enjoyed doing things my way when I can. If I have a sound I’m looking for, I look for a creative team to surround me that could make that possible. I’ve done this with my recordings of the Texas Rose EP and Wyoming LP. These days I’m writing a lot with some Nashville writers. I also started my own Photography business, which has been really exciting for me. To capture a moment Is something special. Especially when I photograph my kids. Starting a business is investing in what you value the most. It’s not just a financial investment. It’s also your time and emotional investment as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The thing that sets me apart from others is our unique experiences in life. Joy, grief, happiness, sadness, all of it. But the magic of that is, we as humans also relate to this. We all understand these feelings and experiences. We have a memory attached to Joy, We have a memory attached to grief. Circumstances are just different for all of us. And it’s those experiences that we should let pave a road for creating and connection to others.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way is to ask a lot of questions. Ask yourself and ask other people. Ask people who have started a business similar to yours what they did. I also would encourage you to not listen to everyone’s opinion of how your creative vision will look. If you have something on your mind that you want to do. Then do it. If you are waiting for everyone to give you approval or encourage, it’s not likely to happen. People love to talk about the things that can’t be done. I want to talk about ways I can make my creative vision possible. Finding that sort of encouragement is rare. So don’t just stand there waiting for your answer. With God’s help we are our answer most of the time to making things happen.
What do I want people to know about my buisness? I want people to know that I am photographing the best moments I can. If you want to work with me, let’s make something great. Let’s do something exciting. I also write and produce my own music. If you are looking for a Producer or writer, I’d love to talk to you more about a collaboration.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not in Nashville anymore. I’m in Salem, North Carolina now. I love Asheville. It’s always a fun place to write or photograph. I love the Kipton Hotel in Winston Salem. It’s a good place to be inspired. It has a 60’s vibe to it. The Fairlane Hotel in Nashville is another awesome spot. And of course my favorite, Ketchum Idaho.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s certainly a list if we were to talk about who has been a support. I think I’d start by thanking God. I truly believe everything comes from him. Creative thoughts, our talents, ect. My two children are also my inspiration for teaching them how to work hard and create in as many ways as possible and to never ever let any one limit their potential.
As far as music production goes, T Bone Burnett and Pete Anderson are probably my favorite. My production ideas came a lot from the sounds I’ve heard from records they’ve produced. Stephen King’s book on writing is always a favorite, and also anything that is from Ernest Hemingway. Ketchum, Idaho is one of my favorite places to write so I have to give credit there for inspiring my writing. Annie Leibovitz is my absolute favorite Photographer. I find myself very inspired by her work. Hassleblad cameras are also inspiring. I’m using a Hassleblad Camera and it’s an incredible experience.
