Meet Queen- Valencia Zulu | Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Queen- Valencia Zulu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Queen- Valencia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
WAPBRUNCH was birthed to promote more collaboration over competition bringing sisterhood back into our community, and to also combat the many limited opportunities Black women face on a daily basis. We aim to challenge & change the narrative by equipping women with the knowledge and skill set to break down those barriers, building projects and events with the purpose to help create a better future.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Starting a community like WAP wasn’t a walk in the park, but with my previous experience in organizing engaging events, I knew it was only a matter of time. One crucial aspect for me was ensuring WAP embraced black women of every type and age group. Unlike many communities that target specific demographics, we believe in inclusivity because, as black women, we all deserve to be part of loving and supportive spaces.
Promoting genuine sisterhood requires welcoming all black women, irrespective of type or age. We cannot build authentic connections if certain individuals are excluded. At WAP, we extend our arms to anyone seeking genuine, kindhearted friendships, fostering an environment where love is both given and received.
Certainly, challenges are inevitable, but at WAP, we overcome them by continuously striving forward and, more importantly, reflecting on how we can improve. Along the journey, we’ve gathered valuable lessons, and the most significant one is meticulous planning. Never place all your eggs in one basket, and the love you invest in the community will be reciprocated.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
London truly captivates with its beauty and charisma! Assuming she plans to visit in August, here’s a delightful itinerary for her stay:
Start with one of our summer WAP events, ensuring a fantastic beginning to the London experience. Later in the day, explore the artistic side at SipnStrokeuk for a fun and entertaining evening.
The following day, immerse in creativity with a candle-making workshop and Caribbean afternoon tea with signature cocktails at Roti Island. Continue the good vibes by exploring Blackeatsldn market, the UK’s largest black-owned market, for delicious food, drinks, and unique finds from incredible & dope vendors. If the mood persists, groove to the riddims of a fire DJ lineup and dance till 2 am.
After a well-deserved rest, gear up for the vibrant Notting Hill Carnival, to celebrate our rich heritage and culture. And to bruk arf our backs some more! Shout out to my fellow Kittians & Trini’s and to all my Caribbeans.
Following a day of lounging and recuperating, Tuesday evening offers a dinner and a chilled vibe at Troy Bar, an underground open-mic neo-soul joint frequented by legends like Queen Badu, Raphael Saadiq, Shaggy, Luciano, and Tarrus Riley. Discover the talent of emerging artists while enjoying the soulful atmosphere.
This is just a glimpse of a cute itinerary for an unforgettable London experience!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m truly excited about this shout-out section, and throughout this journey, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some incredible women. I want to express my gratitude to the Renaissance studio, Tamera, and Charlene – the amazing sisters who gave us the opportunity to host our 101 branding course not once but twice, breaking barriers and climbing mountains in the TV industry.
A special shout-out to Kanndis Riley, founder of NBE FITNESS CIC, for her unwavering support, encouragement, and accountability. She has hosted some of the most amazing treks, mindful breathing, workout, and yoga sessions.
I also want to acknowledge Jamelia Donaldson, founder of treasure tress & the teen experience, for her consistent support from the inception of WAPBRUNCH and the fantastic opportunities and work provided by treasure tress.
A big shout-out to all the incredible women who have contributed to making our events possible.
Lastly, but most importantly, huge appreciation to our amazing WAP team and our beautiful Queens who consistently celebrate and support sisterhood.
