We had the good fortune of connecting with Precious Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Precious, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My brand uplifts and celebrates disability culture and boricua/latino heritage. I represent mental health, blind women of color, and first-generation graduates. My business is so much more than just a brand. I feel called to use my gifts to inspire future generations and change the world, all the glory to God. My career provides me with many opportunities to teach, celebrate, advocate, and elevate. This happens in the classroom during music enrichment with preschoolers at the Childrens Academy in Louisville. This happens during songwriting workshops at summer programs for blind students in Massachusetts or in the library of Olmsted Academy South with middle school students in Louisville. This happens out on stage in front of crowds at the Kennedy Center and beyond. I get to tell my story in so many ways, and I feel so blessed to be able to use my platform to pave the way for those who will come after me. There is so much talent to be found in this world, and there is room enough for all of us in these creative spaces.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a blind latina artist also known as La Reggaetonera Ciega, and I’ve just released three fresh new latin singles under the label We Could Be Music. Music has been my passion since I was little, and with that passion came the drive to create positive change. My art is a part of my heart and soul. Through it, I express myself, but I also uplift all of my communities. My art is bigger than just me, and I am most excited about using it as a vehicle to advocate, educate, and celebrate others as the first blind latina at the forefront of the music industry. I take every opportunity that comes my way, and I run with it. I serve as President of RAMPD{Recording Artists and Music Professionals with Disabilities), an award-winning platform that connects a global network of disabled music professionals to the music industry with the mission of amplifying disability culture, promoting inclusion, and advicating for accessibility within the music industry. I am a published author, and recently appeared as the blind widow Grace Cobb on the Paramount Plus mini series Bass Reeves. I am a member of a six-piece versatile band called Midair Decision, and I am the lead singer in a new Louisville-based cover band called Sight Unseen. I’m blessed to say that although my business is still growing, I stay booked and busy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in Nashville are probably the most common, but watching shows at the Bridgestone arena and Mercedes Bins stadium are two of my favorite things to do. I would be remiss not to mention the hot chicken.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I always say that it takes a village. No one gets anywhere alone, and I am blessed to be surrounded by love and support. I wouldn’t be where I am without my friends, family, mentors, teachers, colleagues, and fans.
