We had the good fortune of connecting with Phenix Red and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phenix Red, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
I would say “discernment” …everybody has an opinion, everybody has what they think you should do, everybody has a direction, everybody has a reason why you need to change something etc. You can’t take your car to a car salesman and expect them NOT to sell you another car. The ability to listen to peoples projections and know the difference between what is actually true for YOU and what is NOT is a superpower needed to make it in this business and business in general. I remember when I started working out EVERYBODY thought their way was the answer and it had me tripping and lost in the sauce of all the directions I was apparently SUPPOSED to go. I learned to silence all of that and be able to listen without being influence. We get so much stimuli in the world right now, more than any human naturally really should, so learning to center and listen to your own voice is the most powerful tool we can have in the toolbelt.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up milking cows in a town of 800 people. My own teachers tried to talk me out of music. I left at 18 and never looked back. I was always ready to risk it all in the name of art. My journey hasn’t gone exactly as I planned, but I’m proud of myself for my Warrior spirit and never giving up. I’ve had to experience alot of ego deaths, and face alot of cages I put myself in or helped others put me in, I’ve shed skin that was never mine and I’ve looked my demons in the eyes….and at some point I realized at the core of everything I do – I just want to help people. Help free people from their own cages. Help people through their rebirths and to their highest expression of self. I used to look at myself as 3Dimensional ya know? like I have to be a grammy award winning artist on a world tour and THEN I can help people in all these other ways and do other things creatively…now I’m realizing that I need to be all that I am meant to be NOW. So I’ve stepped into the director role and have been filming/directing/producing/editing music videos and short film for others. I am launching a podcast called “The Rebirth Effect” and I hope that it helps open up alot of peoples minds and if it even plays a small step into their journey towards their most free self I will feel accomplished. As we set ourselves free we free others.

What sets me apart is I am me. Nobody can be me like me. And being ME is finally my number one goal. I don’t have to be the best anything because being me is enough to inspire others to be themselves. I am just trying to fall in love with the journey so when I get to the destination I’m still having fun.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would go have brunch at Hearts in East Nashville, an afternoon espresso martini at LA Jackson, ending the night with honey chipolte wings and an old fashion at Mothers Ruin in Germantown. That would be an ideal foody/drink day in Nashville for me.

We would definitely spend our time at all the best foodie places…have to check out Pinewood Social for some bowling and apps and Mas Tacos for lunch at some point, they would DRAG me to broadway and I would let them but insist we don’t do more than one night lol

I don’t really go out that much because I’m always working but those would be my go to spots.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my producer Mike Ewing for sharing his amazing talent and support as a friend the last 8 years, for all the studio sessions and hours of his life he’s put into our partnership and his continued belief in me. In this business as an independent artist it is really hard to find someone you can create with on a consistent basis like that so I feel super blessed.

My partner Waylon for seeing me and believing in me when nobody else did. But not just believing in me, but putting his whole life behind my vision. And for picking me up off the ground when I just felt like the voices were taking me under. He never let me give up.

My best friend Andy Darling who always discusses personal development, spirituality, philosophy, and neuroscience with me. She keeps me on track and always helps me to see through the things that are sometimes the hardest to see and a friendship like that is rare. I know that I am always expanding and growing to my highest expression when we are together.

my thanks to Nashville for being such an incredible place to nurture me. What a gift.

to the creator, my higher self and my spirit squad for whispering in my ear and never letting me miss a sign

and in the words of Snoop Dog, “and finally I’d like to thank me” for not ever giving up and always daring to dream and show up for that dream.

to the fans and friends because anyone who cares enough to listen to my music and love me is a true gift and blows my mind all the time
