We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Tohill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If you’re not putting yourself out there and trying new things you’re never going to learn. Just do it.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started from the ground up. I bought a small camera and just started asking friends if they wanted a music video. Eventually I realized that my insecurities and some of the things I didn’t yet understand about the industry were actually my strong suits so i embraced those attributes and built a strong reputation as an innovative director. It’s never easy and I still feel like it’s an up-hill battle. The other side of creating some of my stories is the strain it puts on myself and the crew. I push myself, my crew, and even my artists to give it all they have in order to collectively create something unique. As I continue I’ve learned that sometimes failure is something to embrace because it forces me to think on my feet. A lot of times some of our best work on set comes from an unfortunate moment where we have to adapt.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Recently my family and I have been in to camping. We do use a camper so I’m not sure I can say it’s truly camping but the kids love it. If my friend was in town we’d go to an epic park and camp for the week. It’s a perfect time to just relax and do nothing while decompressing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say that Katie Babbage has been a huge support to what I do. She and her team have produced all of my projects and they are incredible. Whether we’re shutting down part of an interstate and highway or trekking 2 miles one-way through the woods to a cliff, Katie’s team has helped me to keep my head on straight and execute my vision. Viewers don’t realize what goes on behind the scenes to make things happen.
