We had the good fortune of connecting with Owen Watson, PhD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Owen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my publishing business (Turn The Page in Your Life) intertwines with what I believe to be my God-given purpose in life, and that is to inspire others by communicating and sharing God’s love. This entails me being about my Father’s business and enables me to provide the gift of knowledge, through books, to enhance the lives of others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With me being a Christian, it is (or should be obvious) that I would publish literature that represents God in truth, which is why the books I publish are all carefully and biblically researched for accuracy. Not only that but I also spend tremendous amounts of time in prayer and fasting. The reason being is that I do not want what I construct and publish publicly to be something that can’t be verified by the Bible nor in anyway would I want to intentionally mislead anyone and bring shame on God and Christianity. What sets me apart from others is that I understand the gift God has freely given me to share with others is not something to be used for selfish gain, which is why I set the prices at bare minimum. It excites me to know that I am being used to positively impact the lives of others based on experiences, knowledge, and relationship with God. For me to be where I am today personally and professionally, it is totally by the grace of God, without a doubt. It was far from being an easy road and still is at times; however, it’s the road that God has guided and provided for me to take. Whenever challenges arise, those are my cues to pray, listen, and trust in God before responding. A couple of lessons that I’ve learned along the way is understanding which fruit(s) of the Spirit is/are being perfected in my life and which is/are being used to serve others through my life. What I would like for the world to know about the books I write is that my emotions and ego are checked at the door beforehand to ensure what is written is not about “Owen” but for the bettering of others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a best friend of mine was visiting the area for a week, I would probably take them to Nashville Life Church on either or both, Sunday and Wednesday – hopefully, we’d be able to catch CeCe Winans singing, if not, there’s always a great word to be heard. I’d definitely make time for us to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum – personal favorite spot of mine. Our hang out place would be “White Castle” – can’t pass on the best burgers and fries in town! We’ll also spend sometime trying to catch a game First Horizon Park and visit the Nashville Zoo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate a shoutout to my loving mother, Leamorica, my brilliant and beautiful wife, Ramona, and my kind and thoughtful niece, NaTasha! They are my constant cheerleaders who stand with me, push me when needed, and continually provide me with priceless support and feedback that keeps me encouraged and engaged in my spiritual walk. Ramona works tirelessly providing editing services; whereas, my mother and niece offer personal, yet very honest reviews regarding each project. All three let me know whether there’s a clear biblical connection and picture which benefits the readers.
