We had the good fortune of connecting with Onoleigh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Onoleigh, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs, so self employment was instilled in me at a very young age. My parents have started 4-5 corporations from landscaping and ostrich farming to equipment dealerships and coffee cafes. Although none of them were music related, the core values instilled in me are what drive me today with my own business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel that my art evolves with me. My latest single reflects the struggles I faced growing up and how they shaped me into who I am today.

In my younger years, I struggled with connecting to those around me and with finding the words to express myself. My most recent single, Walls, is about my childhood bedroom and how those four walls provided the room for me to grow.

The challenges I faced early on prepared me for the music industry I am in today. It is the hardest journey I have been a part of, yet the most rewarding thus far.

I have learned that perseverance and humility are top priority along with patience and a lot of faith.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I feel very fortune to live in a city that has so many different outlets for entertainment, but I have to say my favorite place to start is the Gulch. We would start with drinks at LA Jackson since the rooftop provides one of the best views of the city. We would then bop across the street to Sunda for dinner where they have the best pork belly dim sum and sushi in town. Once we finish, we would catch a show at The Ryman and finish the night at a speakeasy called Pushing Daisies.

If it was my friends first time in town, we would have to take a day and visit the tourist attractions, if you will, as they are definitely a must see. For me, these include the Country Music Hall of Fame, Broadway and the Station Inn.

You really can’t go wrong in Nashville, you just have to find your avenue and make a plan. There are truly countless reasons why it is my favorite place on the planet.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a special shoutout to my wonderful parents. They have encouraged me every step of the way and continue to support me throughout this journey. I can honestly say, too, that some of my first mentors were my high school band director, Mr. Stevens and my musical director, Mrs. Allen. They specifically steered me towards the arts and helped me stay positive along the way. Another huge piece in my success are those who listen to my music. It really is all about the fans and without them none of this would even be possible. It really is a team effort!
