We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Alfrey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, what do you attribute your success to?
Markets have been a great way to meet new people, talk about our products and show them how much their pet likes eating them. We have had several pet parents be surprised that their pet will eat our treats. They say their pet normally doesn’t like treats from the store. Quality makes a big difference.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
June Bug’s purpose is to offer healthy treat options for our beloved pets. We offer treats that are completely free from gluten, preservatives, sugar, salt and anything artificial. Each ingredient we use has been thoroughly researched to ensure that they are not only pet friendly but also offers them many benefits. We have worked with local pet allergy clinics in Knoxville which has allowed us to stay clear of ingredients that commonly cause allergic reactions in our pets. We also wanted to make sure we run our company legally. In Tennessee, this means we have a business license, a feed license and all treats are lab tested.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We look for family and dog friendly places to hang out together. Some of our favorites are Ebony and Ivory Brewery which is next to Hard Knox Pizza.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves a big shoutout for believing in me and allowing me to continue with a company I truly love operating. They are there for all the events and late nights of baking!
