We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Gibbings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I guess I think about risk like I think about everything in my life: I follow my gut. If it feels right, risk it. Risk is also subjective though. Most of the world would consider me pursing a career in music as a risk. And though statistically that might be true, it is the only thing I am sure of. So to me the real risk would be NOT to follow my passion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started writing music when I was twelve years old to cope with a parents divorce. Which looking back now just proves the point that music is therapy. Period. My first love was hip-hop and I would write and record in my friend Cory’s bedroom for years. I ended up recording a few EPs and opening for Mobb Deep and Twista in California. I studied music in college, moved to LA, moved to New York, but didn’t really hit my stride until I moved to Nashville at 30. Country music now has my heart and all my focus because it’s at a point where lots of different genres are bleeding into it. It’s a very exciting time to be in Nashville.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man, well I don’t want to blow up all the local spots haha, but since Jelly Roll did it already on Instagram I will say Red Door (midtown) it the spot to be. Live Oak midtown is also a great hang with great songwriters playing almost every night. I avoid broadway but if friends are visiting it’s something they need to experience at least (and hopefully) just once. I don’t go out to eat as much as I would like to but I do love 5th & Taylor, Lemongrass Thai, E3 Chophouse, Barcelona and Milk & Honey.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In Nashville everything is collaborative. So I would not have any of the success I’ve had without the help of my friends, artists and fellow songwriters. In no particular order would be Erland Wanberg, Paul Wrock, Brandon Bing, Jami Grooms, Joel Jorgensen, Alex Dooley and Jill Moody at NSAI.
