Meet Nickola Magnolia | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nickola Magnolia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nickola, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is such a huge part of any creative endeavour. It’s starts with choosing this path in the first place, but I still feel the risks everyday in the studio. There’s a place you can go with your voice that isn’t mapped out yet, and you risk not getting it right by going there. If you don’t try, you might not find a more vocally creative path. I think the same theory applies to this entire business, if you don’t take a risk you might never find your own way. So I think taking a risk and being uncomfortable is the key to being an artist.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently working on my second album and slowly releasing one song at a time in 2024. With hundreds of shows, and dozens of hours in the studio, my music has developed so much, that I can’t wait to share it with the world. The beauty of my first album might have been in its inexperience lies authenticity. That being said, having a different perspective on life and connections made through playing music live has had such a big impact on my new album. It’s still country, but with so much more soul and creativity as I’ve leaned in to the production side of recording.
I’m putting my heart and soul into every note of every song on the album, and it’s really become something special, and different.
I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way from the time between two albums. I’ve made mistakes, and taken risks, but I’m grateful that i haven’t let any set backs stop me. I think what matters most is making something you’re proud of, and in 20 years you can look back and still like it. There’s always temptation to follow a trend or genre, but there’s something special that happens when you ignore it. My biggest lesson this year has been to not give up, keep my head down, and make something that will stand the test of time.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A perfect night out for me would be dinner at Xiao Bao in East Nashville, then to a show at 3rd and Lindsay, where great music is a guarantee. After that I would head to Robert’s western world, especially if it’s a Wednesday. The blue bird is also a must see, it’s too iconic to miss. For day time hangs I’d go to centennial park, RCA Studio B and cheekwood estate and gardens.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person right now who deserves a shoutout is my producer Adam Newcomb. He has shown me kindness and patience and space to be creative and intuitive with my music. And without that, I don’t think my upcoming album would be as special as it is.
