We had the good fortune of connecting with Naughty Input and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Naughty, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
In our respective hometowns, we all were interested in music from a young age. School of Rock and Guitar Hero were big influences on us! Regardless of the jobs we all worked, we were always playing in bands and performing in some way. Music is the kind of thing we just can’t live without doing! At this point, we haven’t worked a “real” job in a long time so we are all-in on being creative entrepreneurs!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our band prides itself on putting on high-energy, passionate performances. We’re a Rock band and our music reflects that, but we are influenced by good music of all genres! We are very proud of our versatility, and our ability to curate our shows to the tastes and requests of the different crowds we play to. We started playing for free in dive bars in 2019, and since have gone on to play numerous weddings, private events, and cool venues all around the country, all while supporting ourselves financially with our passion. For that we are incredibly thankful!

Achieving this was not possible without a great deal of persistence. Chelsea (singer) and JD (guitarist) met after JD responded to Chelsea’s Craigslist ad shortly after he moved to Nashville. From there, the two of us played with numerous different musicians before finding Conner (bassist) through mutual friends. The three of us instantly clicked, and after a few different drummers, found Jarrod on Facebook shortly after he moved into town. One of the greatest challenges a band faces is finding the right group of like-minded people for the job.

We started playing on Broadway the Summer of 2021. When we began, we were all still working our day jobs, but as we developed experience and learned how to put on better performances, we were offered more show opportunities and eventually became able to support ourselves just from playing live. After two years on Broadway, we got in touch with the Tin Roof chain of bars that has locations all over the Midwest and Southeast. They started offering us a lot of gigs, and thus we began traveling most every weekend to their various locations and performing in front of a much wider array of people. As word of mouth spread, we began getting offers to play weddings and private events from people who had seen us perform at these venues.

During the week, we have been working on creating new original music. We look forward to releasing our new music within the next few months. Our ultimate goal is to continue traveling to new and exciting venues with an all original set!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we were tour guides for some BFFLs coming to town, we got some ideas. First of all, we are all big nature peeps, so hiking at Percy Warner or the Volunteer Trail would be high on our lists. Conner would certainly force them into playing pickleball at the Y (shout out to them for having the only free Pickleball courts in Nashville #dobetterwithourtaxdollars). Karaoke at a local spot would be a possibility, but we can’t divulge which one it is for fear of influx from those who are unworthy of the experience. How about food?? Something I’ve noticed, is that when friends come to town, they think Nashville would surely have some great barbecue. Sadly, this ain’t the case. But that’s okay! There’s plenty of other fantastic places. Definitely gonna have to hit up Big Al’s for his incredible home cooking and warm and welcoming vibe. Even though it is not Nashville specific, Jeni’s is always a must visit for some sweet treats. And no Nashville trip is complete without a visit to everyone’s favorite dive bar, Dino’s. For the grand finale, streaking on Broadway.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have been so fortunate to encounter a lot of support from fans, family, and our peers! In Dickson, TN, Morgan Kincaid-Chandler and Michael Shepard have curated an incredible community of friends and music enthusiasts at their bar, One19. We play all over the country, but every time we go to Dickson we feel like we’re coming home to a group of people that love us and truly enjoy what we do.
