Meet Morgan Houston | Retired Military Medic

We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Houston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Bluff City Signing started from a desire to create a flexible career that would allow me to fully engage as a parent while still serving my community and taking care of my mental health. After my time in the Air Force as a medic and training manager, I transitioned into civilian life as a medic and stay-at-home mom of three. I knew I wanted to continue working but needed something that allowed me to balance my home life and my professional aspirations. Becoming a notary public and loan signing agent gave me that perfect balance, and it’s grown into a full-fledged business, offering services like mobile notary, loan signing, and wedding officiating
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Bluff City Signing apart is the combination of precision, care, and community focus that I bring to the table. I’m proud of the fact that my background as an Air Force medic and training manager has given me an eye for detail, discipline, and a deep commitment to serving others. But what truly sets me apart is the personal journey I’ve been through.
Starting Bluff City Signing wasn’t easy. After leaving the military and transitioning into civilian life, I faced significant challenges with PTSD and major depression. It was a tough time, balancing my mental health while being a stay-at-home mom to three energetic children. But I’m proud to say that I pushed through, not only for myself but for my family. Overcoming these challenges has made me stronger, more compassionate, and deeply committed to helping others, whether through my notary services or as a wedding officiant.
Building this business has been a way for me to reclaim my sense of purpose and continue serving the public in a way that fits my life now. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success doesn’t come without struggle, but it’s through those struggles that we grow and find our true strength.
What I want the world to know about Bluff City Signing is that it’s more than a business—it’s a reflection of my journey, my resilience, and my dedication to providing reliable, professional services with a personal touch. I’m excited about the future and proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a veteran suffering from PTSD, I initially needed a lot of support. I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my family, especially my husband. His support has been unwavering as I’ve taken on the challenge of growing Bluff City Signing. As a law enforcement officer, he understands the value of serving the community, and he’s always been my biggest cheerleader in balancing both family and work.
I’d also like to recognize my sister, Kelly, who is an inspiring leader addressing the math crisis in Memphis. Her dedication to making a difference in our community motivates me every day. Additionally, my time in the Air Force gave me the discipline, integrity, and commitment I bring to my work as a notary and loan signing agent.
Lastly, I can’t forget to mention the Memphis small business community, which has welcomed and supported me as I’ve built Bluff City Signing. Their encouragement and collaboration have been invaluable to my growth.
