Meet Misha Mills | Licensed Cosmetologist & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Misha Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misha, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in business is to bet on myself—trust my vision, have faith, protect my value, surround myself with the right people, and take action with confidence. At the end of the day, the biggest difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is the willingness to believe in themselves and take action. So whatever dream you have, whatever goal you’re chasing—bet on yourself
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got to where I am today professionally through hard work, resilience, and a deep passion for my craft. It definitely wasn’t easy—there are moments of doubt, setbacks, and challenges that test my faith.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was learning to protect my value. It’s easy to give too much away—your time, talent, and energy—without realizing that not everyone has your best interest at heart. I had to set boundaries, and surround myself with people who uplift and pour into me just as much as I pour into them.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that belief in yourself is everything. If you have an idea, if you have even a small seed of faith, nurture it and take action. Growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones, and success requires stepping out on faith, even when things are uncertain.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am here to inspire, educate, and uplift. My journey isn’t just about me—it’s about paving the way for others and helping them see their potential. Whether through my work in cosmetology or my personal story, I want to leave an impact that empowers others to chase their dreams with confidence and resilience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m located in Birmingham AL. I’d make sure they experienced the best of the city, especially its Black-owned gems. We’d start with brunch at Yo’ Mama’s or Big Bad Breakfast, then explore history at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. Lunch would be at Eugene’s Hot Chicken or Saw’s BBQ, followed by shopping at The Summit or local boutiques. We’d hike Red Mountain Park or visit Railroad Park before dinner at The Southern Kitchen & Bar or Helen. Evenings would include drinks at Paper Doll Bar, live music at Iron City, or a relaxed vibe at Pizitz Food Hall. A day trip to Oak Mountain State Park or a spa day at Escape Day Spa would add balance, and we’d wrap up with a final brunch at Slide Cafe or Slutty Vegan, making unforgettable memories.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a special shoutout to my mother, Cynthia Mills—may she rest in the heavenly place (12/30/22). She was the embodiment of resilience, determination, and passion in her craft, and her unwavering dedication continues to inspire me every day. She taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and believing in myself, even when the odds seemed stacked against me. Her legacy lives on through me, and I strive to honor her by carrying forward the same strength, drive, and love for my craft that she poured into everything she did. I am forever grateful for the lessons she instilled in me and the foundation she built, which allows me to stand tall today.
