Meet Michael Scott | Artist and musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal of my career would be to have a big family that I get to support by making music. Touring and recording my own music for a living would be a dream. There is a lot of steps to get there but I am willing to take those steps. Obviously if I am playing arenas when I’m 40 that’s amazing but really if I can just sustain me and my family, that is all I care about.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been playing music since I was seven but sophomore year of high school is when I started to take it seriously. At this point I was just playing guitar and collecting pedals and amps and such but all of that was really just me hiding from talents I knew I had deep within. I finally excepted my fate, bought some recoding gear, and began writing and producing. It took a while for me to create something I really loved but it was all in due time. After forming a band in high school, recording an EP, recording a record in Nashville, and beginning my solo project, I had a lot underway and I was truly getting to do what I wanted and was meant to do. I know all of that is super summarized but that’s because moving to Nashville after all of these things had happened, really took me closer to my career and to the art I want to be making. Having released 3 EP’s under “Michael Alan Scott” and playing guitar for many artists in Nashville, I can confidently say I am living out the dream. I can quickly forget that but when I think about what high school Michael would be thinking about his life now, he’d probably be peeing his pants. I count it as a gift and a blessing that I get to make music that I truly love. I recently released an EP entitled, “Tom Apple, Vol. 2” and I believe it is my best work yet. I love writing about growing up and reminiscing on the past and this EP truly captures that as well as the sonic direction I am trying to lean into. Chasing this dream is full of challenges but when you step back and look at all you have done (especially at 22) it makes you feel incredibly thankful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’d definitely grab some coffee to start. I love 8th and Roast a lot. I’m into super unique lattes and they always got something I’ve never heard of before there. After that id head to radnor for a little walk. I love this area especially because it’s in what feels like the middle of Nashville. That may not be true but getting away from the hectic city that Nashville can be and seeing a lake is awesome. After that we would probably head to baja burrito for lunch. I know it’s a classic spot but it’s SO good. On a little tiny sign it says “fish burrito” and one day I decided to try it and haven’t gotten anything else since. After that we’d probably hang around maybe go see my old stomping grounds at Belmont and finish the day off with a burger and drink from Dino’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be here without God and my family. Having faith is what keeps me going and fuels my passion for making music. My parents saw the talents I had at such an early age and they invested and invested and invested in me because of what they saw in me. I am truly blessed to have such a solid foundation and those two things are truly what drive me and make me able to make the art I make.
