We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Glaser and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
While I have always had a deep appreciation for artistic expression, I chose to channel my creativity into the world of kitchen design, where form meets function in a more tangible way. Designing and crafting cabinets for luxury homes allows me to merge aesthetics with practicality, creating modern, elegant spaces that elevate everyday living.

This career offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with clients, bringing their visions to life in a way that blends beauty with purpose. In this way, I find a balance between artistic innovation and craftsmanship, making a lasting, meaningful impact on the homes I design. Pursuing this path has allowed me to express my creativity in a way that is both fulfilling and enduring, while also meeting the needs of those I serve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other kitchen designers is my commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional design through an abstract, modern approach that challenges conventional ideas of form and function. My focus has always been on creating spaces that are not only visually stunning but also deeply integrated with the overall architecture of the home. What I’m most proud of is how I’ve developed a design philosophy that is both innovative and practical, allowing me to create kitchens that blend beauty with utility in a seamless, modern aesthetic.

Reaching this point in my career has been a journey filled with challenges. Breaking into the luxury home market required resilience, dedication, and the ability to continually adapt and evolve my design techniques. Earning the trust of high-end clients, architects, and designers wasn’t easy, but I stayed true to my vision and my commitment to craftsmanship. This dedication has allowed me to work on some incredible projects, where my design instincts are not only respected but celebrated.

What I want the world to know about my abstract approach to kitchen design is that it’s not just about following trends—it’s about creating timeless spaces that reflect both the artistry of design and the functionality of a well-crafted kitchen. My process is highly collaborative, and I see immense value in working closely with architects and designers. I understand how to complement and enhance the architectural integrity of a space while also bringing my unique perspective to the table. This collaborative synergy is what makes my work stand out and why I’ve become a valuable partner to those who seek cutting-edge design that elevates the home.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to take my best friend on a week-long trip , it would be to Chicago, we’d dive into a mix of the city’s iconic architecture and vibrant food scene. We’d start by exploring downtown, visiting historic landmarks like The Rookery and the Chicago Cultural Center, while also taking an architectural boat tour to get a unique perspective of the skyline. We’d spend a day in Hyde Park, checking out the University of Chicago and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, and another day wandering through neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, and Old Town to experience the charm of different parts of the city.

In terms of dining, we’d definitely indulge in Chicago’s signature deep-dish pizza, hit up some top spots like Girl & The Goat and RPM Steak for dinner, and grab drinks at rooftop bars like LondonHouse for amazing views. We’d make sure to check out a few museums, like the Art Institute or the Museum of Contemporary Art, and maybe even take a short trip to Oak Park to tour more of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpieces. Throughout the trip, the focus would be on blending old-school Chicago history with its modern, cutting-edge design and food scene.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a deep appreciation for the talented architect Ryan Thewes, whose trust and collaboration have greatly influenced my work. Ryan has consistently placed his confidence in my judgment on several of his projects, allowing me the creative freedom to design kitchens that align with his architectural vision. His praise for my abstract approach to design has been incredibly encouraging, as he values the unique, innovative methods I bring to each project. Working with an architect like Ryan, who respects and embraces my creative process, has been both an honor and a pleasure, and it’s helped me further refine and push the boundaries of modern kitchen design.
