We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Pfeffer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, I just didn’t love how everyone else was doing it. A lot of chiropractic offices are “high-volume”; that means they see dozens and dozens of patients per day, typically just adjust them (so spending very little time with them), and having staff do generic supplemental treatments and exercises with the patients. It’s much more of a business-mindset, and some people love treatments like that… it’s just not for me. I wanted to be able to take my time and integrate different diagnostic & treatment tools; to treat the issue underlying the symptoms; to get to know my patients and treat them as a whole being, not just a spine.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Voodoo Chiropractic is unlike any other chiropractic office around. We take our jobs seriously, but not ourselves. We strive to evaluate every person who walks through our door as a whole entity, not just a spine to adjust or an injury to treat. Because we are constantly continuing our education, we have a plethora of diagnostic and treatment options for our patients. A lot of what we do is soft tissue-related and working to correct form/biomechanics… but we’re great adjustors, too. In the last year, I started doing a technique called Cranial Facial Release that’s absolutely incredible; there are only a few hundred doctors in the states that are certified (lots in Europe), and I’m the only one in Nashville! It’s what’s called a “ballooning technique”, which sounds a little weird, but it’s a way to adjust all of the bones in the skull/face. The results I’ve had thus far are insane in the best way; people usually come get it for breathing, sinus issues, snoring, etc., but end up with results ranging from correcting dry eyes, concussion symptoms residing, brain fog lifting, and mood improvement… and everyone says it’s the “best night’s sleep” they’ve gotten.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First and foremost, we’re going to a fancy dinner at Bastion in Houston Station. It’s my favorite restaurant in all the land. Present Tense, Mas Tacos, Peg Leg Porker make the list, too. We’re definitely hitting up Pink Door Cookies for some sweets; I’ve been getting Mathew’s cookies since he started making them out of his house, and he’s an absolute wizard! Broadway’s not really my scene, so I’d take them to the Listening Room; it’s always been my favorite place for live music. I don’t really drink, but Lucky’s 3 Star is a fun place to hang. I think one of my favorite things to do when it’s nice out is hike; Nashville and the surrounding areas are gorgeous in spring/summer/fall. We’d definitely do at least one hot yoga class at Fahrenheit, and for a little staycation I’d get us a room at the Graduate because it’s such a fun and funky hotel. Oh! And NAPD Nights at Harriet’s Rooftop, because A.J.’s DJing is phenomenal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Evan, who’s constantly pushing me towards being a better business owner & version of myself; to my stepdaughters, Ila, Aven & Evie, who bring me so much joy & add a little sparkle to the office when they come; to my business coach, Emily Perry, who is constantly encouraging me to put myself out there & understand my worth; to my associate doctor, Lydia, for helping grow the practice and excelling in the areas I don’t; to my mom, for all of the support she’s given me over the last decade; to my dad & stepmom, Terry, for their business advice; and to my Grampy, who is the reason I stayed in Nashville 11 years ago when it was hard instead of moving back home to Chicago.
