Meet Meg DeLong | Co-Owner & Head Organizer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg DeLong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meg, how do you think about risk?
I feel like this is the perfect question for us! I think to most, the unknown can be terrifying. But it’s kind of how you view the “unknown”. You could have a corporate job that you feel is fail proof, and have all the insurance and retirement plans and what not, but then… boom you’re let go because they are cutting positions. That’s WAYYYY scarier to us than just starting our own business, haha, and maybe that sounds crazy! But when you build something that is yours, and for us, we are sisters that have built this company together, you do anything within your power and heart to see it through. The risk is really just in the starting of something, but the heart and soul really carry it on. Taking this “risk” of doing our “own thang” has brought us so much joy, knowledge, experience, money, happiness, and it has brought us closer as sisters, it has given us soooo much more time with our families, and we are building something that can’t be taken away from us. That’s worth everything to us.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are professional organizers here in Nashville, TN! We are sisters, and we really just decided one day… “hey, let’s do something together,” so we did! At that time Marie Kondo had just launched her first show and it was so eye opening to us. We really felt like we could organize for others and really help people out. We are both very prone to being tidy, so it made a lot of sense for us to go down this path as a career.
A little background on us, Ea had a heart attack at 33, and it was pretty insane and devastating. Thankfully she survived and I feel like after that, we both just realized life is way too short to not do something you love. That was a big catalyst and motivator for the two of us to make our business work, and to stick around for the long haul.
It also gave us the perspective of having a job that gives us not just time together as sisters, but time with our families. We are moms and have husbands, so we wanted to make sure we could take off for the birthdays or the awards at school.
But that’s not to say there hasn’t been trying and challenging times. A big hurdle of owning your own business is figuring out your work load. What are you willing to say yes to? What are you willing to say no to? You get a little nervous to pass up jobs because if you don’t have paid time off, you miss out on income. It’s tricky! All of that to say is that we busted our butts for about 4 and a half years working 5 days in homes, organizing, doing physical labor all while running our social media, building it and trying to figure out our future. Then we cut back to 3 days a week in homes because we started gaining more partnerships as our socials grew. And now we are at 2 days a week!!! And we love it because we get to create so much content with our other days, reaching WAY more people through our social media.
It’s so cool to look back at our business history and see the ups and downs, the pivots, and what has worked and what hasn’t.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow! Well my dream day with a bestie would be, first, we would go to Dose Nashville and get allll the coffee! Next we would do some vintage/antique shopping in East Nashville at Lykke Haus. Probably a tasty lunch at Mas Tacos, and maybe a margarita if we are feeling wilddd. Next we would take a longgg walk around Shelby Park to feel refreshed after lunch. Honestly… then I’d be ready for a nap, so go home, sleep, get up and then get dressed for a night out at Epice on 12th South for a cutie dinner and then dessert at Fryce across the street!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow! We love this! We have had the BIGGEST cheerleaders along the way and it’s truly unbelievable! We would love to shout out our girl’s Bethany and Amanda with Whoa Wait Walmart. They have helped encourage and educate us in the whole realm of social media. They are so lovely and have done such big and wonderful things; truly inspirations! We also are just so thankful for our teams over the years. We are a four member team now, but truly, we couldn’t do what we do without our ladies. Carli and Brooke, who are with us now believe in The Tidy Home so much! They deal with our craziness and keep us in line! But our amazing team members from previous years, Eleni and Delaney, truly helped us build our brand and business and EVERYONE loved them. We have something so special and I’m so thankful we have had so many people to encourage and push us all these years.
