We had the good fortune of connecting with meagan johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi meagan, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Sometimes people assume if you are comfortable speaking in front of thousands of people you are never nervous prior to a presentation. NOT TRUE! Every audience brings a new set of personalities and dynamics to the event. I experience HUGE butterflies prior to stepping on the stage. The nervousness begins to simmer about 7 days prior and continually builds until the Big Day. The anxiety, however, (I believe) leads to greater opportunities for humor, insights and audience interaction. Said simply, nervousness makes you sharper on stage!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began my career as a Professional Generational Speaker when I was 27 years old. I was blissfully unaware of the potential pitfalls of leaving a full time paid job to work for myself. At least at the time I had no savings or clients! I do believe this ignorance allowed me to take greater risks during the beginning of my career. Early on I was passionate and intrigued about how different generations interacted and communicated in the workplace. My own challenging experiences working in the traditional corporate world put me on the generational expertise path. I believe there is a way to bring in younger less experienced talent and successfully blend it with the seasoned experienced workforce. It does not have to be one generation gets their way over another. Multi-Generational Diversity is better for employees, employers, and the marketplace. Additionally, generational diversity helps makes organizations an employer of choice.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a 3rd generation native of Phoenix Arizona. I have lived in Phoenix my entire life. One of the perks of being a long time Phoenician is witnessing how my hometown has grown and changed. The best changes have been to our restaurant scene. There are so many more choices, both chain and non-chain, restaurants available. Three of my favorites are ~

Durant’s Steakhouse. Durant’s has been around since the 1950s. The rumor is the original owner was linked to the mob! People who are in the know, know to enter via the kitchen. As you walk through the entire kitchen staff welcomes you to the restaurant.

Rosita’s Place. Arizona has lots of Mexican restaurants to choose from, however, Rosita’s Place remains my favorite. The food is ‘old-school’ and the margaritas are delicious. I have many fond memories visiting Rosita’s with my family as a kid. I introduced my husband to the restaurant when we first started dating. Now it is the ONLY place he wants to go eat!

Wrigley Mansion. Technically it is considered a private club, but first time visitors are welcome. The views are absolutely spectacular! I always suggest trying to get a seat at the bar during sunset. The food has a European flair and tastes as good as the view looks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As cliched as it sounds … my mom and dad. You have NO Control over the people who are your parents. I was fortunate enough to hit the parental jackpot. I have two of the BEST people in the universe as parents. Everything good in my life today can be traced back to a lesson, a sacrifice or experience given to me by my parents. LOVE YOU MOM & DAD!
