We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Rigsby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Getting over the fear of failure. When doubt starts to creep back into my mind I remind myself of one of my favorite Bible verses, Phillipians 4:13 : “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”. As I have evolved as a person, I have learned to accept that I will make mistakes daily as I continue to grow, learn, and create. Each time I fail I find an opportunity to improve myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer based in Nashville, TN. I have experience working in the food and beverage industry, so I have made this my initial focus for my photography work. Beginning to make this transition from bartending full-time to working for myself is difficult. There are many days that I get home at 5am or 6am in the morning from a shift and still have work to do. I don’t believe that something is worth pursuing if it is going to be easy. I look forward to the day when I will be able to reflect on this time. I thank God for every opportunity He has provided for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely start out an evening with cocktails at Attaboy in East Nashville and follow up this stop with dinner at Bastion in WEHO to welcome them to Nashville. I’d also make sure and start a morning at L&L Market. Two of my favorite places are here: Honest Coffee Roasters and nashᵀᴺ. nashᵀᴺ has the best apparel that truly represents Nashvillians and welcomes our visitors!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mentor, Sam Phen. Sam is one of Nashville’s most talented creatives. Personally, he has helped me grow so much in my journey. I wouldn’t be on the path I am today, without his support. You may not know him, but it is very likely that you have come across some of his work.
