Meet Margaret Tolbert | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Margaret Tolbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margaret, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Tolbert Marketing and Events because I love what I do, I love the people I work with, and, honestly, I wanted to build something that felt true to me. Marketing has always been my passion, but even more than that, I thrive on relationships—connecting with people, helping businesses grow, and making an impact.
After years in the industry, I saw a real need for marketing that wasn’t one-size-fits-all. I wanted to create a business that focused on personalized, results-driven strategies while still being fun and approachable. I didn’t want to be just another agency—I wanted to be a true partner to my clients.
And, of course, there was that entrepreneurial itch. I’ve always been independent and driven, and I knew I wanted to do things my way. Building this business has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done, and I’m so grateful for the incredible clients, partners, and friends who have been part of the journey!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Tolbert Marketing and Events, we’re not just a marketing agency—we’re a team of passionate, creative people who truly love what we do. What makes us different is that every single person on our team brings something special to the table. Whether it’s strategy, design, event planning, or storytelling, we all have unique strengths that come together to create something amazing for our clients.
I’m incredibly proud of how TME has grown and evolved. When I started this business, I knew I wanted to do things differently—putting relationships first, staying creative, and always pushing for the best results. But what I didn’t realize was just how much this team would shape our success. We don’t just work together; we collaborate, we challenge each other, and most importantly, we care. Every project we take on is done with heart, passion, and a genuine desire to see our clients succeed.
The journey hasn’t always been easy—building a business never is! But I’ve learned that the key to overcoming challenges is adaptability, a great team, and a commitment to always learning and evolving. TME today looks different than it did when I started, and I know it’ll keep changing in the best ways. No matter what, our core values remain the same: passion, creativity, and a deep dedication to the people we work with.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, we’d keep it low-key with plenty of good books, great cocktails, and a mix of my favorite local spots. Here’s how we’d do it:
Mornings:
Slow starts with coffee at Just Love Coffee – A good cup of coffee and time to wake up without rushing.
Reading time at The Book Shop in East Nashville – Browsing for new reads and getting lost in a cozy bookstore.
Lounging at my house – Poolside reading, morning cocktails, or just catching up.
Afternoons:
Lunch at Lebanon Square – Maybe Town Square Social or a little café, followed by some antique shopping.
More book browsing – There’s always time for another bookstore stop.
Afternoon cocktails at East Nashville Beer Works – A laid-back spot with good drinks and a chill vibe.
Evenings:
Home-cooked dinners & cocktails at my house – Mixing up drinks in our at-home speakeasy, enjoying good food, and unwinding.
Nightcaps and deep convos – Whether outside by the firepit or curled up inside, we’d end the night with a great cocktail and a good book discussion.
It’d be the perfect mix of relaxation, good reads, and great drinks—exactly how I like to spend my time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who deserve a shoutout! First, my clients—especially the amazing folks at the Home Builders Association. Their trust and support have meant everything, and I genuinely love working with them. I always say the members of the Home Builders Association build more than homes, they built my business.
I also have to give a huge shoutout to my friends who took a leap of faith and decided to work with me. Starting a business is one thing, but getting to build it alongside people I love and respect? That’s been the best part.
And, of course, my family. They’ve been my sounding board, my biggest cheerleaders, and the ones who remind me why I started this in the first place. I definitely wouldn’t be here without them!
