We had the good fortune of connecting with Malak Osli and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malak, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is something you take to propel yourself forward with the recurring thought of failure looming in your subconscious it drives you to go harder, shoot for the moon and even if you fall you still got high enough to reach that point amongst the stars.

I would say I the biggest risk I took was moving to a new state straight out of high school with no car and no family at 19 for the pursuit of knowledge and at fresh start on my music career and life. I moved from Mississippi to Tennessee and I haven’t looked back since, the ride has been amazing and fruitful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a whole I’m an Rnb Artist through and through with a splash of hip hop mixed in with various other styles like pop and experimental music, it’s a very fun process. I would label my sound Trap Rnb with a twist.

What sets me apart from others is just me, no one can ever be me because I’m authentically myself and that’s something you can’t replicate.

I’m excited about continuing my music career and building a brand and coming up with merch.

To get to the point am now took hard work and dedication and advice from people closest to me it wasn’t easy but I loved the ride. The lessons I learned along the way were trust the process and be you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them downtown to local venues that support artist like us. I would take them out to eat in Franklin and eat at both my favorite restaurants, Takumi’s & Ichiddo Ramen. Those places are so good and full of flavor, one even has robots. But if they wanted some good authentic Chinese food, I would take them to my favorite Chinese buffet in Murfreesboro Yoki Buffet. One time I went to Yoki and it was so good I had to go the second day. I used to do food reviews as a hobby so I love trying new places and cuisine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my mom I wouldn’t be here without her. She payed for my college for two years and my apartment all while taking care of her and my sister back in Mississippi, I could never thank her enough. She also kept me level headed while facing adversity on both sides, it wasn’t easy especially moving to one of the wealthiest counties in the United States and I love her even more for saving my life. Where I’m from there’s not many options especially when you’re trying to do music, the only option I had was to get out and pursue my passion.
