Meet Makenzie Cabrera | Mother, Wife, Medical Student, Powerhouse Advocate

Hi Makenzie, what do you want your legacy to be?
A mother who strived to make sure her babies were taken care of. A mother who advocated and changed the world for rare diseases and autoinflammatory diseases but to also change the stigma of beint a special needs mother.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a special needs mother who runs a medical blog, medical awareness and advocacy tik tok and belongs to several different councils or medical boards.
My end goal is to be a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Rheumatology.
In 2023 I got a proclamation placed for our home city to celebrate autoinflammatory diseases.
I learned how to embrace our rare life and my special needs children and turn it into a setback to a set forward. I learned to become a powerhouse advocate and educate others.
Our story is founded in several different blogs, a rare disease book, and also the local news.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to New York City. As a girl who grew up close to the city, I feel like the city is my calling. The fast life, the doctors, the hospitals, the socialization.
I would love to visit different museums, try new coffee and explore all the different places NYC has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Julious, my two son’s Jayse and Josiah, UR Golisano’s, Childrens Miracle Network of NNY, YP Area. Without them I wouldnt be the advocate and person I am today.
