We had the good fortune of connecting with Makeisha McIntyre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makeisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I thought about starting my own business I was definitely scared. However, I knew that fitness was a huge passion of mine and I wanted to help other people. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to start my business, so I did a few business mentorships which helped me set everything up. One thing I’ve learned in this business is there are things you have to do to be successful and then there are other things you do specifically that make your business unique. I am definitely not where I want to be with my business, but I am proud of what I have accomplished so far! I have actually been working on some new ideas for a running program to roll out in the beginning of 2024! I have found running to be something I am passionate about and want to help others learn how to enjoy it as well!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am full time personal trainer and I specialize working with the general population, but also have a passion for helping young females as well! Lately, I have found running as something I really enjoy and am working on creating a program for new runners. I come from a sports background, so competing is something that I love to do and I want to help others accomplish their goals in this area as well! I have a good way of connecting with people of different ages and fitness goals and I am known for making workouts fun and unique, so you don’t feel like you’re working out. I like to use compound movements, so you get the most out of every workout. I am most proud of the knowledge and progress I’ve made in personal training. There is so much out there to learn and I feel like I’ve just hit the top of the iceberg with all I know. I feel like I am set apart from others by the way I connect and listen to my clients. I try and give them workouts they will enjoy while still challenging them! The biggest thing I like to do with my clients is pushing them outside their comfort zone! I always tell them to be comfortable getting uncomfortable because nothing is going to change if you stay in your comfort zone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I live in Nashville TN and there are so many cool places to go. Honestly, I am a huge homebody, but I have been working on getting out more. I would definitely take them to Broadway and take them to the rooftop of some bars. You truly don’t get a better view then up on those rooftops. While downtown, we would go to legendary milkshake bar because a day is not complete without ice cream! We would go to Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint Germantown and get a burger and French fries along with their special sauce which is to die for! Since I am an active person, we would have to go on a hike as well! There are some pretty cool hikes around this area, but my favorite so far has been Cummins Falls! Lastly, if I could get them to go on a run, we’d hit up a part of the greenway for a run or at least a walk.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give recognition to my family. My parents raised me to be a strong independent woman, but they also instilled in me to be a hard worker. My dad is actually a small business owner and he has really encouraged me to continue on with my own business by seeing how hard he works. My mom has always encouraged me on my journey and has been there for me even when times got tough. My sister is my special supporter. She really helps me when it comes to my writing. I am not the best writer, but she is great at polishing up my work.
