We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyndzy Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lyndzy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started designing apparel back in 2015, it was difficult to find fun fashion for plus-size bodies, so I started making my own. Even today, I roll my eyes when I see the limited and boring selection we have for extended sizes. Life’s too short to wear boring clothes!

Originally just a collection of my fashion ideas, Bunni Designs evolved when I joined the apparel line MinZprint as a guest artist in 2015. Taking the reins after their retirement in 2018, I’ve cultivated Bunni Designs into its own storefront and welcomed a handful of other talented artists to collaborate with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love creating designs inspired by the things that bring me joy. Seeing people wearing and enjoying my artwork is incredibly rewarding and makes me feel so proud.

As a small brand offering a wide range of sizes, maintaining stock is financially challenging so I’ve embraced a made-to-order approach. This makes offering apparel feasible for a small brand like mine and is more environmentally conscious. There is so much waste in the fashion industry I do my best not to add to it. However, the made-to-order model comes with setbacks.

My turnaround is notably longer compared to big-name clothing resellers, and I believe a substantial customer base has shifted to the fast fashion industry. The pandemic has also introduced additional delays and complications l resulting in a decline in sales over the past 3 years.

I want the world to know that Bunni Designs is run by a chubby, geeky, indie artist who just wants to share her passions with others. I work incredibly hard, every single day, to bring my ideas to life and I appreciate everyone who has supported me along the way!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival is a must for anyone visiting Nashville in April. The Aquarium Restaurant is also a lot of fun. The food isn’t anything to write home about but it’s a fun experience. Usually, when I’m visiting Nashville I’m meeting up with the Nashville Mermaid Pod!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
