Meet Loyd Elmore Jr | Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Loyd Elmore Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Loyd, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have wanted to be a writer since middle school. I started writing longhand (my handwriting was horrible at that age and still is) on typewriter paper I borrowed (stole) from my father. Later, I used to learn his typewriter and borrowed (stole) it for years. Then came a word processor (not a fan) and, finally, a good old PC.
This was what I wanted to do with my life: create worlds and have people visit them.
But the fear of rejection was hard to let go of. It hung on for years until I finally realized I wasn’t getting younger and living with a ‘try’ is better than not trying at all.
So, I created 733 Squared Media, and off I went.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m part of the Generation X group. We were the last of the ferile children. Because of that, I read Stephen King before puberty and felt at home in his world. The worlds I create on the page aren’t too far from his, though I see the world differently because of different experiences. Because of that, my stories are unique, from tiny people, holes in space time, and short stories of revenge, love, and loss. Everything I write must have a certain amount of heart involved.
It hasn’t been easy. Many coffee-fueled late nights into the wee hours have been lived to write my stories. There have been times I’ve had to sacrifice time with my loved ones in pursuit of creating imaginary friends.
It’s made me realize that if you want something bad enough, sacrifices must be made. And, luckily, I’m married to someone who understands and gives me the room.
In the end, I just want people to enjoy the worlds I create. I want to make them laugh, cry, think, and go for the ride.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I’m not a bar guy, I would take them to see the Nashville Sounds and enjoy some minor league baseball. Or go to one of the local parks and live in nature a while.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife and daughter deserve top honors. They are the two people that I wanted to impress the most. As long as I keep trying to do that, I’m on the right track.
When my mother passed away in 2009, I started to write a blog about anxiety and depression. That led to writing short stories. When my father passed away in 2019, I finally decided to cat away the fear and work toward getting published. I must thank them.
And Cody C. Engdahl, who showed me how to get published and believed in me.
