We had the good fortune of connecting with Liv Charette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liv, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My philosophy in my life, in my career, and in anything I want to pursue has always been twofold:
1. What’s the worst that could happen? (Most of the time, the worst case scenario isn’t ever as bad as you think it is, so you might as well just go for it)
2. Why not me? (Anyone you’ve ever looked up to had to start somewhere to get to where they are today. Why can’t you be the person someone looks up to, or strives to be like one day?)
Life with risk (backed by research, intention, and follow-through) is always a life worth living.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a recording artist, songwriter, content creator who loves to share her passions with the world! Creativity is what sets my soul on fire – whether it’s in a writing session, in the studio, or behind the lens. I am a proud nerd (both on paper… and self-proclaimed, ha ha) because I never get tired of learning new things. If I don’t have my nose in a book, I am in the studio. If I’m not writing a new song, I am busy learning a new skill that can help elevate my career.
What sets me apart is that I am not one-dimensional – I love SO many things and believe that is my strength. Our passions are what connect us with others and foster community. I strive for my music, my love for gaming and creating fun content to do just that.
Getting to where I am today did not come without it’s challenges. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to move to Nashville from Ottawa, ON, Canada almost 8 years ago, attend Belmont University, while also pursuing music full-time. When I graduated college, I left with a music business degree, a management contract and a whole lot of hard work ahead of me.
Since then, I’ve gotten to do some pretty cool things, like honor Tina Turner’s induction at the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, play the Bluebird cafe and other amazing shows in front of thousands of people. I’ve gotten to work with brands like Nintendo, Xbox, TikTok, and so many others. I’ve put out multiple singles across two genres (country and pop), hit over 1 million streams, and even more so recently, write some of my favorite music I have ever written.
Nashville is notoriously known as a “ten year town”, which inspires me even more so today because as I am approaching that, I really feel in my heart that I am on the cusp of something great.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The only way to do Nashville *the right way* is to take a walk down country music history. Starting off with a taking a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame, followed by a quick walk down Broadway and grabbing some bites at Fifth & Broadway. Taking in shows at the Mother Churches of country music – the Ryman and the Grand Ole Opry – are absolute musts, as well as the Bluebird Cafe for a true authentic songwriters round! I personally always like to add in a little stroll around the Belmont University because not only is it my alma mater, but the grounds and architecture are absolutely stunning! There is SO much to do here in Nashville – this only just scratches the surface of what this vibrant city has to offer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t have the unwavering love and support from my two biggest fans: my parents. They’re my sounding board, my true North and are always the first people I want to share good news with.
A career like mine takes a team and I am extremely grateful for my circle of people (management, co-writers, producers) who have always believed in me from the very start.
