Meet Lexi Cummings | Singer/songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Cummings and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lexi, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because it is truly the one area I feel called to- I heard many creatives over the course of my upbringing advise me that if I could possibly be happy doing something else, that I should do that instead. They were alluding to the unpredictability, the instability, and the challenges that often accompany the artistic and more freelance lifestyle. And as I’ve grown and attempted multiple different genres of work, I only confirm more and more for myself that I am not only drawn to the arts, but made for it. The way you can build a life around the different curves is one of the most exciting parts of what I do. Every day feels like an adventure, the possibilities are endless, and my art benefits greatly from the challenges I walk through to keep on towards my goals. I can’t see myself doing anything else in this world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am still very much a work in progress and I have had both high and low points in my career as a singer and writer, but I wouldn’t be where I am without the love and support of those around me! I have walked through seasons where I was bed ridden and unable to drive, stand, cook, or really even take care of myself due to mystery illnesses. I learned that a lot of my mental strength to keep pursuing music comes from the strength I had to develop to keep myself alive and to then fight my way back to a point of thriving in my health. It put many things into perspective for me from my goals to the people around me. Environment matters, people matter, your health matters. And while I’ve never been one much for taking things for granted, I grew an uncanny appreciation for all that I have through the things I lost. I’ve never been more on a mission than I am now! I want the world to be a place where we can all support each other, support ourselves, and live well. That is what I hope to communicate with my platform. It isn’t about being perfect, it’s about walking in humility, finding ways to connect over our common human experiences, and to keep growing as we go. 🙂
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
12 south!!! I love going on a walk in the park and ending up at Portland Brew to grab a coffee. Really any place along that street is great. I also love Cheekwood, any park, and the apple orchid over in Nolensville area. And of course, you’ve got to go downtown. I like Robert’s and Acme the most!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents, truly! They have helped me to carry so many things as I pursue my dreams from health struggles, financial struggles, to identity struggles. They are there for me in all the ways that they can be and I would not be where I am without their love and support. As well as many Lipscomb University professors from my college years, some of whom I still work with closely today. Their mentorship has truly changed the course of my life in the best of ways. And ultimately, my faith in Jesus is what grounds me and who I attribute all of my many blessings to.
