We had the good fortune of connecting with Lafrancis Phifer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaFrancis, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Little Rock, Arkansas. I was raised in my early years in a single parent household. At the age of 15 my mom married my dad and things changed. Their union sparked my desire to always cultivate healthy marriages and relationships. As I grew older, I realized that yes single Parents can raise healthy children, and most times the children will have wholesome lives. On the other hand when children see the two parent household dynamic working at its best, it broadens their horizon to see the picture a little bit brighter. I firmly believe that children learn what they live.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Today along with my husband, Jeremy Phifer, Sr. together, we operate Growing up Phifer. Growing up Phifer is a ministry/business that works to heal relationships and people by providing an atmosphere to restore, cultivate, and uplift. We are a foster/adopt family, recognizing the need to show the love of Christ to children and others who are struggling with the hardships of life. Our story and ministry was birthed out of seeing God do wonders with what we had to offer when we availed ourselves to his direction. Our business is different in that we host “Date Nights” for couples that provide avenues for connectivity! There are a lot of challenges, because not everyone wants to go in a date with 25 other couples. That’s understandable, but when couples attend our events and they see others connecting with their own partner, it sparks a kind of a “us too” moment. Then our ministry portion where a couple speaks about their own highs and lows of marriage, adds validity to the room that we all have challenges, but we all also have victories. I want the world to know that everyone has a purpose and a calling. Everyone has someone to add value to. When we realize that we are only in competition with ourselves to be better and do better today in living out our purpose than we did yesterday, all of us will reap the successes that living out purpose can bring.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because I work with couples mostly…
We would plan a trip downtown in the River Market to explore the farmers market to see crafts and specialty items our community offers.
We would eat dinner at Samanthas Tap Room if we wanted to get out.
We would hang out at Gigi’s on Main Street for music, drinks, dancing and the vibe that Gigi’s offer.
Nice comfortable quiet times around the fire or grill at home sharing stories and relating as couples are always fun and thought provoking.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my mom, Dr. Fran Kelley for shaping me into the woman I am today. I would also like to dedicate this to my Children Cameron and Curtis for doing their best to honor me as their mom at a time I struggled with knowing just how important my choices would affect their lives, living as a single mom.
