We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyna “JusBam” Ealey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyna “JusBam”, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Doin t it for the love of it” is my record label Love is Life Entertainment motto. It reminds me that every thing you create may not always bring a monetary return. I make music because I love hip-hop. I write songs that I hope will encourage my listeners to positive. And to inspire good music. And I am not under pressure to conform to the current industry standard.
The same mentality is why I created CultureVille. I am the Producer of a TV show on Access Nashville called CultureVille CultureVille is a weekly TV series showcasing Urban Culture in Middle TN. I wanted to provide local underground artist, entrepreneurs, and creative a platform to be seen. Access Nashville is a public access channel under the non=profit NECAT Network.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been an underground Hip-hop artist trying the navigate the music industry for a long time. Originally from DC, I burst on to DC’s underground hip-hop scene when I competed in the largest emcee battle competition held in the area. I became the first female to qualify to the finals. And won competition the next year. I was then selected to participate in the MTV Documentary Series True Life. MTV True Life “Im a Battle Rapper” documented the life of three freestyle rapper form different parts of the US. The main feature of the project was the Rap Olympic Competition held in Cleveland, Ohio. I made history by becoming the first female to ever make a Rap Olympic team. Dominating the event by finishing 4th out of 20 emcees in the final round. The entire experience debuted on MTV. Still running in syndication True Life elevated my career and showcased my skills to millions of viewers.
During the same time period, I landed a job at Streetz Magazine, a local urban publication. I accepted the challenge and excelled quickly with the young magazine. I have conducted one-on-one interviews with several mainstream artists such as Big Daddy Kane, Mob Deep, Devin the Dude, and many more. This elevated my status among her peers in the industry. And I was promoted to Senior Editor.
In 2005 I launched my own record label, Love is Life Entertainment. After years of working for other artist, I decide to focus on her own rap career. And released her first solo album WhoIam in 2015. WhoIam is a look at who I am as an artist, and a person.
I have headlined numerous venues featuring hip-hop music and spoken word throughout the eastern region. While in music city, I have showcased my talents as a rap artist and poet performing in several music conferences and showcases. I went back in the studio work on anew project. And released Working Contradiction during the pandemic as a preview. With two new singles “Use Me Up” & “Instructions”. The EP takes it back to classic Hip-Hop, with a capella and instrumental versions for the DJs & B-Boy/B-Girls of course.
I launched my TV show in 2019, after becoming a member of NECAT. This gave me a platform to help the local hip-hop community. And showcase all my skills that I have learned along the way.
The SIt-in Mixtape. We recently premiere the video version to the public. I was asked to help to write a play that became The Sit-in Mixtape. It’s based on the protests that occurred in 1960 at the lunch counters on 5th Ave in downtown Nashville. The video version is scheduled to premiere at NECAT Network at 4PM on April 20th. The research, writing, production, and first live performance of The Sit-in Mixtape were sponsored by Nashville Fringe Festival (www.NashvilleFringeFestival.org).
The Sit-in Mixtape was written and produced by JusBam and Al-d Words
My journey has not been easy for sure. I would say to 2 most important lessons I have learned are
1. Learn the business for what you creative passion is. Take a class or study the industry you wish to enter. So you can make intelligent choices when opportunities happen
2. Try to be self sufficient. Use tools and app that will allow you to control you image and story.
I want the world to respect me as a lyricist and artist. And understand that we are all just steps away from being famous. All we need it your support.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There some spots that I would defiantly take anyone who came to visit
Thursday “The Sky Deck’ and the Assembly Food Hall
Friday night during summer – “The Nashville Black Market” at the Farmers Market
Noir Nashville is a place I have been waiting to try
The African American Music Museum is on my bucket list
Hampton Social is the perfect place for brunch.
And because I live in Clarksville, I think everyone should try the Catfish House.
And we would have to get breakfast at The Pancake Pantry
