We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?

My business started off and was inspired by me just wanting to help the people in my community who had horses. I would go around helping and offering basic services to horse owners and one day one of my clients said, Kristen you should at least charge people for your gas to come out and I said well maybe I will. That’s how Miss Krissy’s Equine Service and Homemade Horse Kookies became a business.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business specializes in providing an in-depth equine service and making homemade horse treats (that we call, horse kookies). On the equine side I pay special attention to horses’ health and over all well-being. Making sure they are receiving an adequate amount of exercise and maintaining a good healthy diet. I feel what sets me apart from others is that I provide emotional support for not only the horses, but to the owners as well by assuring them the safety of their horses while grooming them and placing them in a relaxed state. I’m most proud that I have a platform not only to provide a service but to also educate the owners as well. With our homemade horse kookies we offer a well-balanced nutritious and tasteful treat that comes in in two flavors. The original and cinnamon alfalfa delight. We also offer horse cakes for special occasion. I’m excited to see Miss Krissy’s Homemade Horse Kookies & Equine Services become a go to name at every barn and feed store. Getting here was not the smoothest road, but what God has for me has always been for me. There were a lot of doubtful moments and plenty of naysayers. But I believed in my passion and kept pushing forward. I have learned that consistency is key and anything worth having is worth waiting for. Also that if you believe in yourself then you should never give up. I just want the world to know that I’m just small-town girl with a big dream. And with faith, prayer, and hard work you can accomplish anything you want.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to show my best friend around town. We would start off with drinks for happy hour at Kamp Houston and have a few Pineapples Rita’s and dine on some of their delicious wings. We could visit The Warwick and have the Hawaiian Ribeye and a glass of red wine. And we could take a day to stop by Perrys Steak House and enjoy a double bone in porkchop with an applesauce and bacon glaze. and wash it down with a flight of drinks. Then we can take trip to the historic Acres Homes (where I grew up) and get a good old fashion homemade double cheeseburger basket with a large grape shaved ice Tropical Express. Go out and do some Texas two stepping at Whiskey River on a Thursday night. And the legendary Triangle 7 Arena (Bruno’s) on a Friday night for some zydeco, country, and blues music from local DJs. On the weekend we could catch a local rodeo, trail ride, or timed event. Get on Instagram and follow @thkitchentable to see where they are set up to get some good homemade BBQ. They offer mouth watering brisket, sausage, ribs, and boudin with a side of dirty rice and BBQ beans. Church at The Luke is a must Sunday morning no matter how long Saturday night was. Dinner at a relatives house that would require a nap afterwards. Then we could ride down Homestead on a Sunday evening and embrace in the car culture that Houston is so known for.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Children are my motivation and my family is my support. Thanks to “American Outdoor Legacy” and “The Kitchen Table” for their support as well.
