Meet Kim Harris | Owner of SKATE SNOB®

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, a little background about myself – I think people recognize me for being an “active-professional”, because they become fascinated to hear of my collection of social activities that expand beyond the workplace, which comprises of skating, swimming, walking, dancing, and formally improv comedy & kickball. I’m an advocate for inspiring mentally stimulating and heart-healthy activities that stem beyond the workplace, because you want to have joy and value in multiple facets of your life. And professionally, I come from a business background, with a recent academic focus in entrepreneurship. So, a business was bound to arise (lol).
I launched SKATE SNOB® after I became a part of the skating community, because I wanted to showcase our passion for this artform in a long-standing way. If you’re not aware, the skating community is an environment where skaters routinely build their skills and showcase their new moves, athleticism, creativity, etc. on a regular basis. And in this community, there’s a combination of newer skaters paired with many who have been skating consistently throughout the decades. So, I am very proud to be amongst everyone in this community, and am solidifying our devotion, affection & dedication to the masses in a memorable way.
We (skaters) put hours and hours of work into this passion. And after while, many of us want to display the levels of knowledge acquired, whether that’s through showmanship or giving advice to others. Hence, SKATE SNOB®! When you are wearing SKATE SNOB®, you are proclaiming your space in the skate community. You are telling the world what you are passionate about (without opening your mouth)! And you are welcoming the cohesiveness of each person’s energy, spirit, and style by acknowledging the lifestyles of others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and creator of the SKATE SNOB® retail brand. SKATE SNOB® is a high-quality brand of clothing, books, and accessories. Our garments are designed to keep skaters comfortable while performing their craft.
I’m also a book author. My first children’s publication, “Bailee Learns To Skate”, is available on https://skatesnob.com.
As well, I teach roller skating lessons in Charlotte, NC and have professionally taught actors and celebrities how to skate. I’ve done work for NBCUniversal Media, been featured on CLEO TV’s “Boss Girls Guide” tv series, and have a chapter in “The Evolution of Skating Vol. VI: This is How We Roll” book series.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Favorite spots in the city?
As a skater, I would naturally take you to the roller rinks and outdoor skate events in the city. Otherwise, there are plenty places to sightsee and/or visit, depending on your taste. Being in such a buzzing city, there are also plenty of eateries and food trucks – so, there will definitely be fun & tasty options to choose from.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is dedicated to my support system, clientele, and fellow skaters.
