We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Brasher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In some ways, I didn’t really have a choice. I’ve been freelancing on the side since I graduated with my graphic design degree. After a decade in the industry, I took a risk and joined a startup company. After working for them for nine months, they did what startups do sometimes and laid off my department. I had just returned from maternity leave and had a four-month-old baby with no childcare and no desire or drive to find another full-time job. So, I decided to take the risk and work for myself! It’s been the best decision I could’ve made.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been creative and loved technology. When I went to college and realized there was a way to combine the two, graphic design became my life’s pursuit. I love bringing order to chaos and structure to a story, so designing brands makes me so happy. I have a great eye for clean, intuitive design and have a holistic approach, beginning with your story and bringing it to life for an engaging, delightful user experience. I’ve worked in television, creative agencies, healthcare, HR, and independently. As a designer, you work in a lot of different industries and learn things you wouldn’t expect.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I already have it laid out for you on my website! https://kelseyraebrasher.com/nashville

I’m passionate about Nashville and love having a good time. My ideal night would consist of delicious food, fancy drinks, and karaoke!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my three friends, Karen, Dawn, and Natalie. The week after I got let go from my job and was considering going full-time freelance, these three ladies encouraged me to go for it! All three of these women have been freelancing in their own creative careers for decades. They’ve raised families and had successful careers. Sometimes, we cannot envision the path to success unless we’ve seen it, and these three women showed me it was possible. And they told me I had what it takes.
