Meet Keidra Scruggs | Mom, Etsy Seller, YouTuber & Tiktoker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keidra Scruggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keidra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The main reason I really wanted to start my own business is because I was really tired of working for other people. I was in the customer service field and when I worked to the fullest and beyond my ability it was always getting unnoticed or credit given to someone who didn’t even do the work. My managers were not the best of people and I was just cheap labor to them. Then on top of that I was irritated with the fact how drying most skincare products are. If you’re not spending over $60 for high end products that may or may not work. Most products you don’t really know what kind of ingredients are in them. So I realized if I really wanted to make products that actually work and pleased with and don’t mind spending time and money on then hey, might as well start making it myself. And that’s exactly what I did. I did my research and tested and sampled everything I made. I believe that if I wasn’t pleased with the final product then I will not sell it to anyone. Everything I’ve made I’ve used myself. I even let my family sample my products before I even put it out there to the public. I’m not where I want to be with my business because of stumbling blocks, negative energy and sometimes lack of motivation because of the type of people and situations that I was in. Yes, some may say they’re excuses but I’m human and I have good and bad days just like everyone else. I received backlash from others for not working and pursuing something that I was passionate about. But in the end how successful my business will become depends solely on me and my dedication to my passion. I know my products help people and I want the world to experience the love, time, sweat and tears I put into every last one of my handmade products.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Besides making handmade products I am also a Content Creator. I’m on the journey of building up my brand as Mrs. K. Kreations, BluPhoenyx and Keidra’s Kreations. In order to get my skincare, cosmetics, needlepoint crafts and oils and scents out there I am going to have to promote myself to the masses.
What I believe sets me apart from others is the many gifts that I was blessed with. Not only can I make a beautiful liquid lipstick in any color and foundation and setting powder that I wear in my makeup videos, I can craft a soap specifically for your skin needs. On top of creating skin products I can craft a beautiful rose box from a pattern I made up myself. And if you want a body oil or fragrance spray that can last for hours then I can make that for you too. And I do all of this with a smile.
It’s a lot on my plate but in the end it will be worth it. I’ve worked, cried, lost sleep to get my brand to the point now. May not seem like much but I’m proud of my progress so far even after being off track.
Challenges are always going to come my way because everyone doesn’t want to see me succeed, especially if it doesn’t benefit them.
My biggest challenge are people and my mind set. If I continue to let the wrong people lead me away from what I’m suppose to be doing then my branding and business will never reach the potential and success that it should be at. I have to change the people I allow around me and I have to change my mindset. As long I keep dwelling on the negative things people have done and said about me the longer it’s going to take me to reach my goal and the stronger I make my enemies.
I am still in the process of overcoming my challenges but I will succeed. I am my mother’s daughter. I will not stay down forever.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way is that only you can stop your success. Only you can hender your true potential. By listening to others and trying to please everyone that only see fault in you will truly put you behind in the goals you’ve set for yourself. So heading into 40 years of age on November 2nd I’ve realized that I have the power to change my destiny. What God has for me is for me. He’s just waiting for me to get out of my pity party and start walking into my greatness and prove to all my naysayers that I am special, I am important and I am somebody. God has already forgiven me of my past mistakes. Now I just have to forgive myself and know that I am worth it.
I want the world to know that Keidra isn’t done yet. I’ve crawled through the murky waters and I will rise like the mystical Phoenix from the burnt ashes as a new creature. Where I am now is not my final destination. My products and my branding will be known and loved my many. I’m on my way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a stay at home mom with three kids the ages of seven, four and one I hope my best friend will understand that it will take more effort to show them a good time. (laughing to myself) To be honest the most interesting people I know are my family and my children. They’re the most entertaining people ever. Never a dull moment. They usually plan outings and I’m just there for the fun.
But if I really want to plan something special I will do my research and ask around.
I know Mid-town and Harbor Town have great restaurants and bars for great drinks, music and fun.
Then I would reserve an Airbnb in Downtown Memphis where they can get a great view of Beale Street and the Mississippi River.
The Shelby Farms on Walnut Grove is a great place to have a picnic and enjoy the smiling faces, clean air and beautiful nature scenery. One of my favorite spots ever.
And you can never go wrong with a house party. My brother in law, Dock Richardson and my oldest sister, Cassandra Richardson are professional Djs with my older sister Christina Scruggs on the mic they always have a party live until people pass out! And we always have those customs drinks ready from my baby sister Kendra Jackson who use to bartend professionally. And me being a foody will have the plates waiting for you, hunni.
I’m a simple woman but I will always show my best friend a great time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The people that have really pushed me and encouraged me genuinely for me starting Keidra’s Kreations is my older sister, Christina Scruggs and my three babies, Briseis, Sebastian and Alyssia. My sister, Christina has been my cheerleader when my products were still in the beginning stage. She has tested and sampled everything I have ever made. She’s always the first wanting a sample of anything that I just made. She was the main reason for me starting my business because she said the world needs my products. She always remind me of how many people I’ve helped because of my products and she’s one of them. She kept me on track even when I fell off many times to let me know I need to put myself out there. I started my YouTube and TikTok channels because of her. She just doesn’t really know how much of a blessing she has been to me in more ways than one. She has brought me out of many dark times because of her encouraging words. She pushed me to keep going even when I wanted to give up. And the times when I did give up she was there to help me get myself back together again. She’s my guardian Angel and Spiritual Guide.
I also want to recognize my three beautiful blessings, my babies, my everything, my miracles, my angels, Briseis, Sebastian and Alyssia. My babies mean the Universe to me. I want to make a better life for them because they deserve it. They’re my priority and my purpose. They were my shinning lights when I was thrown in the dark and forgotten by others who claimed they cared of loved me. They’re my reason to continue on this journey of life. As long as I am blessed with breath and life in my body I still have a chance to get the life I’ve always wanted for me and my children. I sometimes call them my beautiful headaches because they test me but I know they truly do love me depict my flaws. I am blessed and honored to be blessed with three shining stars to be beside me in this life.
