We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Perkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I think one thing that outsiders are probably unaware of would be just how much work it takes to bring a character to life for their role in a movie. Alot of people think acting is a dream that is hobbie and not a real job. I feel like a lot of people hear the quote of stop dreaming and get a real job. Acting is fun but it is work. You don’t just show up and act, say lines. There is a lot of back work that goes into the part you are playing. Analyzing your charter, can you pull from something that has happened in your life or are you building this charter from the ground up. Figuring out what is the importance of the scene you are in and not just saying the lines. At the end of the day acting is a career just like other careers it’s just a different career where you use emotions and want to inspire people or help someone dealing with the same thing your character is going through.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Where to start. When I was a little girl, I started doing pageants. I loved doing pageants. They were a lot of fun. I was twelve years old when they were casting for The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. The episode was pageant camp. I auditioned for it, and I got to be on the show. It was first time ever being in front of the camera and on reality tv so you could say I was nervous. I had no clue of what I was walking into, but it was one of the best experiences of my life. I had so much fun, and everyone was so nice and down to earth. We got to do so many fun activities with Paris and Nicole. It went from five of us doing the pageant to the mom’s doing the pageant. From that experience I fell in love. I wanted and needed to do more. I caught the bug as they would say. So, from there My mom helped me to find castings for acting and modeling where I live. Thats how it all began. I got into independent horror films to runway shows, magazines, commercials you name it. Some of the projects starting out I got to be involved in were Dreamer with Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell. Hell-ephone, Most Terrifying Places in American 6, The Girl. Since then, I have done more and more. I love what I do. It was definitely not easy just like any career. There is a lot of time and work that goes into it all and believing in yourself. What sets me apart from others is I am me. I am very hard working and want to be the best version of myself I can be to inspire others. The lessons I have learned along the way is to keep going no matter what and believe in yourself because no matter what career or choice in life you make when it comes to doing what you love and makes you happy is what really matters at the end of the day. This is your life, and you deserve to be happy. To me acting is about inspiring people and helping others that might be going through the same scenario in life. I am proud of everything I have accomplished and looking forward to what is next.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This week long trip would of course begin with coffee. I love coffee so I would take her to all the best coffee places in my city. We would explore the Kentucky Horse Park and Keeneland since Kentucky is known as the horse capital of the world. Look at horses and watch the races while winning or losing money and having wine since it is of course a girl’s trip. I would love to take her to Rupp Arena one night and see a concert. Since I am a kid at heart, we would of course go to the best kid attractions. Do bowling, mini golf to arcade games. Ending the night at the best restaurants in my city, from Tony’s, Malones, Jeff Ruby’s, to Soul Goods.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate a shoutout to everyone that helped me to get my foot into the door starting out in acting. I would not be where I am without you guys. So, thank you! To Trace Deaton for great pictures and nominating me.
