Meet Kathy Caudill | Maker & Pattern Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathy Caudill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathy, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I’ve always tried to lead by example. My hope is that my kids have been able to see me work hard and see that putting in the effort and hard work pay off. But I try to show them how important it is to take time for yourself and your family and friends.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of my top goals is to create sewing patterns that are not only functional, but are fun to make. They also are designed to be easy enough for a newer sewist to make while offering options to keep it interesting and challenging for more experienced sewists. This past year I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and tried a couple things that made me nervous and a little scared. Those things stretched me, gave me new experiences, grew my skill set, and ultimately produced big payoffs. “Do something daily that scares you” is a great motto to live by and so important to continue growing in your skills, profession, and personally.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Franklin, Tennessee is known for its civil war history. A couple must-see spots that were important locations during the Battle of Franklin would be Carnton Plantation and Carter House. Kayaking down the Harpeth River, which runs right through downtown Franklin, is a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. A visit to our charming downtown is a must along with a stop at Puckett’s for dinner and some live music. There are a couple distilleries in the area that are great to visit, and a stop at our secret cocktail club is a fun night out.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without the support of my family. My husband and kids are great cheerleaders and are great to bounce ideas off of. I also couldn’t thank my friends and mentors in the sewing community enough. In particular, the members of my tester team are the most important people I have around me. I view them all as not just team members, but good friends. They are invaluable in helping me put my best self out there.
