Meet Kathleen Fee | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathleen Fee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathleen, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Life is like a beautiful melody, only the lyrics are up to you to write.” – Unknown
I believe it is important to have a positive attitude. Our mind is a powerful tool, capable of unlocking pathways to success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For as far back as my memory serves, music has been the heartbeat of my existence. I grew up tuned into many different genres of music, from Irish traditional folk music to country and rock and roll. My parents immersed my two brothers and I in traditional Irish music playing Irish instruments like the fiddle, button accordion and bodhrán. We grew up entertaining at family parties and then started our own band, shaping our unique sound of music, a fusion of Celtic melodies and contemporary music. We called our band, “Celtic Cross.” I have been the front woman of the band ever since.
I ventured into uncharted territory this past year and had the opportunity to join forces with my dear friends, Rebecca Lynn Howard and Elisha Hoffman to write and record a solo EP. The journey has been both challenging and rewarding, pushing me beyond the safety net of my band into relying on my own.
I have had such diverse musical influences, which helped me to shape the sound of my EP. I have learned that there will be moments that you feel like you’re on an uphill battle and uncomfortable. I have wholeheartedly embraced these challenges and have grown because I have stepped outside my comfort zone.
I am excited about my new EP, “Glitter Gold,” which will be released in July 2024. Each track holds a piece of my soul, and I can’t wait to share more music in the year ahead.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I released my video for my new single, “The Morning After The Night Before,” this past week and I was so excited to shoot it in Printer’s Alley, one of my favorite spots in Downtown Nashville, where I always like to end my nights out. I love to duck into Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar where the sounds of soulful blues music spills out into the alleyway.
Whenever I have friends coming to Nashville, I always check out who is performing at the Ryman Auditorium, The Listening Room, Basement East and Bluebird Cafe. These venues offer a unique opportunities to discover new talent.
If you are staying down on Broadway, then Roberts is my favorite honky tonk to listen to authentic country music. It feels like a throw back in time as there are usually people two-stepping on the dance floor listening to the band playing Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, Roberts also has the grill sizzling up cheeseburgers and friend bologna sandwiches, into the late hours of the night.
One of the interesting things I have learned while living in Nashville is that all the bars on Broadway have back entrances, through the alley next to the Ryman Auditorium. Most people wait at the main entrance, but if you go to the alley in the back, you can usually get in faster without any lines.
If you like Tex-Mex cuisine, you will love Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa, on Broadway. It has the right combination of Nashville’s best music with a touch of Southern charm with a Mexican flair.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Collaborating with Rebecca Lynn Howard and Elisha Hoffman on this recording project has been a true privilege. Their expertise, guidance and steadfast support has been invaluable. Working alongside such exceptionally talented and delightful individuals has been and amazing experience, and I am grateful for their mentorship. I would also like to thank Deadhorse Branding who have helped me with my EP release, Working with their team has also been an absolute pleasure.
