We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I really wanted to help people and to make sure that I’m sharing as many of my gifts as possible. I also wanted to help people feel more comfortable with the idea of therapy and Therapists. In addition I wanted people to know that Therapists are people just like them and so there’s no need to be intimidated.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Clients comment that I’m easy to talk to and that I help them think about things differently. I do think that being a Therapist can be challenging so it’s important to have a good anchor and support. I rely on my spirituality and my spiritual friends for that. Prayer and nature are also good grounders. What I want people to know about my story is that things haven’t been easy. I have faced some tough challenges but with faith and the right tools and support anyone can “make it”.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well my hometown Memphis is big on music, culture and food so we’d visit the Stax Museum and some other historical landmarks downtown. We’d visit the banks of the Mississippi River and take pictures at the new colorful Memphis sign. We’d also check out the Bass Pro Shop inside of the Memphis Pyramid and catch the view at The Lookout. Another popular historic landmark is the Civil Rights Museum and from there we could slide down to BB Kings on Beale Street for some live music and good ol’ southern food. We could also catch a show at The Orpheum and see the Peabody ducks take their famous walk. Then on Sunday we could visit a church and he or she might even get to hear me lead a song.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, teachers, mentors, and the church community that I grew up in deserve all the credit to my success. Growing up I was tapped for alot of leadership development programs and I always had teachers and mentors who pushed me and encouraged me to pursue all of my gifts. I am very grateful for that. Those things made a big difference in my life. There were also lots of speech competitions and voice lessons and such that helped develop my confidence.
