Meet Justin Kaleb | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Kaleb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
“Blood Meridian” by Cormac McCarthy. I think I started reading this book after I fell in love with a Ben Nichols record called “The Last Pale Light In The West”, which is a concept record based on this book. It’s violent, vile, unforgiving, and real. It’s the human condition without it’s makeup on. It’s hard to tell who the heroes are and who the villains are, and it seems to fluctuate, even. I think that’s why I love it so much.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, right now I’m most proud of my most recent record called “New Beginnings”. Me and my producer Darren Kyle King worked tirelessly on this record, and my session players are the best around. Truly, I couldn’t have found a better group of players to track these songs with me.
None of this stuff is easy. Making records is hard. Writing songs gets harder and harder as my standards change. Promotion is hard in an ever-changing digital world. It’s all hard, but I need it. It’s an avenue to talk about all the junk in my head that I don’t talk about in my day to day. I can’t imagine myself not writing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d for sure take them to Bad Luck Burger Club for lunch, then I’d take them to Dee’s because that place rules. At some point we’d probably wind up over at Friedman’s and leave with an armful of stuff we didn’t know we needed going in.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ethan Luck. He’s not only someone I hold in high regard, but he’s somebody I’ve looked up to since I was a kid. He’s been in the music industry for many years, and worked with artists such as Demon Hunter, Kings of Leon, Morgan Wade, Switchfoot, and is a badass solo artist. He’s always given me the time of day, which he never had to do. He’s loyal, and one of the good guys.
