We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Roome and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
It is so hard to narrow it down to just one. I started playing music & acting at the
age of two and although I am only thirteen now, I have already had so many
experiences, lessons, setbacks, & eye-opening moments that have shaped who I
am today as a young teen. Growing up in a world of social media, it’s hard not to
feel like you have to be or look a certain way. These industries are so cut throat
and you are taught to be like someone else or people will not approve. When I
started getting serious about music, I cared so much about what people would
think about my song choices, my performances, the lyrics in my originals, how I
looked when I sang etc. I thought I had to write about what other people wanted
to hear. I quickly learned that the most important thing in growing was actually
just being myself. This meant writing the music I wanted to, singing the songs I
liked, and never ever pretending to be someone else. One of my favorite things
about doing this every day is that I get to be ME in every single way. I get to share
my story, thoughts, feelings, & experiences through my music, lyrics, & fashion.
It's hard when you are 11, 12, or 13 years old and you want people to take you
seriously. Not just in a “cute” way, but a professional way. I always tried to be
older than I am & act all mature, but I quickly realized I was losing myself and my
childhood. One of the coolest things about this journey is that I am only 13! Why
wouldn’t I want to embrace that? Who wants to grow up overnight? I don’t! I
started to realize on TikTok and even THE VOICE, people loved me for me. I know
many people who struggle with this so I am lucky to have learned this early on in
my career. Don’t like me? That is ok! I do this for myself and my fans. Being a
young artist is part of what has made me grow so quick and fast. While it is true, I
have an old soul, I embrace everything that makes me, me. I can be mature when
I have to be – there is always a time and a place for that but its also okay to let
that guard down too. I learned that social media does not matter. There will be so
many haters, people who criticize everything I do. I can control how I react to that
and I have learned, in the big picture, it just does not matter. I am thriving, I am
healthy, I am happy, and that is what is most important. Always be true to
yourself, or this industry will eat you alive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Where do I begin!? I was pretty much singing before I could talk.  At age three, I
asked Santa for a violin and began private lessons soon after, while remaining in

travel Soccer, Softball, & USSA Olympic Ski Racing preparations.  It was also at this
time that I began my musical theatre experience starting with local school plays
such as “Annie,” “Peter Pan,” “Frozen,” “Descendants” & “The Little Mermaid.” I
worked my way up through the regional theatres to an Off Broadway show of
“Hairspray” that ran for multiple shows and weeks at The Vineyard Theatre in
January of 2022. To go back a bit, around age 9, I started writing my own music
and had special guest appearances performing at gigs. My career really took off
soon after when I started going to open mics & began playing many of my own
shows. I was a Semi-Finalist at The World-Famous Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night
where I won twice & was invited back for the Holiday Special among Emmy
Nominated Performers. I have played on stages in Nashville, Florida, New York,
Pennsylvania, Georgia, California, New Jersey & more! I released my first single
“Steel Glass” when I was 10 & from there, I climbed to #9 on iTunes Charts with
my first original EP “I’m Gunna” at age 11. As many people know, I was in
California as the youngest artist ever on NBC’s THE VOICE where I was Niall
Horan’s first SUPER SAVE in the History of the show for Season 24. I have a
passion for Singing the National Anthem & had the honor of doing so for the Mets
Farm Team & The Little League World Series. Since then, I have attended The
Grammys, been on iHeart Radio, Z100, WTBQ, News 12 & other stations! I am
currently working on starting a new band (Auditions are this week) and excited
for my big shows coming up! While I work on writing more originals & playing sold
out shows, I go on acting auditions and have some fun surprises in that side of the
industry to announce soon as well!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

I am a city girl that’s for sure! I know that is not technically “local” but New York is
New York, right?! We have a bus station in town so we would hop on a bus and
head right to Times Square. There is something so magical about that place. I
always imagine myself on a billboard there one day. I also love Midtown & Central
Park. I have been acting in school shows and other productions since I could walk,
so you know we are ending the night at a Broadway show! I am lucky that my
hometown also has some beautiful places such as parks, softball fields, the library
& some amazing shopping! I would definitely bring her to RIO & CO right in
downtown. It is my favorite shopping spot! I tend to hang out with my older
siblings and strong, powerful influential women. Not your typical 13-year-old
that’s for sure! For a more relaxed day, I love getting my nails done, make Tiktoks,

watch movies, & just enjoy

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As you know, getting anywhere in this industry takes a village. Especially, at my
age, I need a little more support than most artists with rides, guardianship,
finances, etc. The list goes on. First, I have to thank my family. I would not be here
if it were not for my parents dropping everything to make sure I am able to follow
my dreams. The crazy schedule, the endless hours, the traveling, the financial
support, & the unpredictability is not easy to handle. Not to mention, I am a
teenager who is homeschooled and that comes with a whole list of obstacles, ha!
I would not be where I am without my parents selflessly dedicating their lives to
my dreams instead of their own. Of course, my siblings as well! I have a twin
brother (William) & sister (Ava) who are two years older than me. My sister is my
best friend and is always there to pick me up, wipe a tear, or offer advice and my
brother is always in my corner whether to cheer me on or make me laugh. I am
grateful for them all. I started music lessons from a young age so I have to shout
out to Christy Brown my Violin teacher beginning at age 3/ 4 and her band EMISH
who put me on stage with them at a young age to perform.  Sophia Bayno was my
first musical theatre coach and a former Broadway producer.  A few to name
include Bob Marks-Vocal Coach, Xen Sam’s as an industry and career mentor,
Melanie Ruan-mentor and photographer, Anthony Aibel-acting coach, Melissa
June Kosovych-acting coach, Kathryn Tate & Jessica Ford -Vocal Coaches. I would
not be able to experience anything I do without the help of the Laurel Springs
School & Forte Music. Fast forward to this past year, as I began to grow, the list
grew too! I am currently working with my managers, Leslie Brander and Lauren
Parrella, as well as Keegan Ferrell as my producer down in Nashville! Niall Horan
and everyone at NBCs THE VOICE had a major impact on my fast-track to where I
am today. He was a phenomenal mentor and it was such an honor working side
by side with him & other musical legends on the show. I loved working with
Wynona Judd as my Mega Mentor and Dan and Shay as guest coach was also
extremely beneficial during my time on The Voice. There are truly so many people
who have contributed to my success so far, it is hard to name them all!
