Meet Jude Toy | Co-Founder Teal Truck Publishing, Creator, songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jude Toy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jude, what do you attribute your success to?
I think there are several important factors behind any successful person. I believe for myself it would be these things
1. Faith in God. I believe my faith has allowed me to stay strong and focused through the many crazy twists and turns of my business. I think imagination is the preview of life’s coming attraction. If you believe in a higher power, something bigger than yourself, it allows you the freedom to be bold. I believe it allows you to achieve what some would think impossible.
2. Team: I feel confident knowing that we have some of the best people in the music business working with us. Lee Lemon, Business Development, Marc Driskill, music publishing, contracts and development, Liz Morin, Ronna Reeves, publishing and song plugging and Keller Hudson executive assistant. This team is helping Teal Truck to reach new levels in our industry and I have every confidence that we will grow exponentially in the coming year.
3. Comfort Zone: I think one of the things that sets those that succeed from those that don’t, is the ability to think outside the box. I try new things, and I’m not afraid to do something different. If you don’t ask or try you will never know your full potential.
4. Education: The more you educate yourself the better you will be at creating something great. I love to learn about writing, I try to invent new and different ways of saying things that may have been said before but in a new, creative way. I listen to podcasts, new artists, and read books, all to keep myself inspired and fresh in my thinking.

5. Remain Positive:
In the music industry it’s easy to look at how hard it is, I focus on how lucky I am to have chosen such an amazing career and how blessed I am to do this every day. I try to always focus on what is good about what I’ve done and at times I look back at what I’ve already accomplished. Remember why you do what you do, Visualize where you want to be and how it will look and feel, Keep your focus and always remain grateful
6. NEVER GIVE UP!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
These are great questions.
I believe the thing that sets me apart from others is my attitude. Having a very positive attitude makes me flexible and fun to work with. I can quickly adjust to others in a room.. I always look for the best in others and I have a very strong work ethic, This allows me to get a lot done and keep my focus and write the best songs possible.
I am very excited about several singles coming out this year.

NBC Universal Comcast featured and continues to feature the song “Name Your Price” for a game show developed for The G4 network.
We have other placements pending but for now, I am very pleased with our successes.
What sets me apart from others?
I would say, I have strong work ethic and I am very motivated. I work very hard and I feel very grateful to have a team around me that has the same vision. I feel that I work well with others and can be with new co-writers and do really well. I can adjust to what needs to to happen in the room. I love working with artists and other writers.
Challenges
I would have to say the most challenging thing about being a songwriter is getting songs cut. It’s become very difficult to get outside songs and so it makes it very competitive and at times frustrating. There are a lot of ups and downs and times you think you’ve got something then you find out you don’t. I guess one of the best lessons I’ve learned is to take it all in stride, have a tough skin and keep working. I have not have a major cut yet but I know I will and I keep working toward that goal. I have had enough successes that allow me to stay excited and motivated to be the best that I can be in my field.
What I want people to know about me:
I want people to know how much it means to be to be seen and recognized for the hard work I’ve put into my career. I do feel like people don’t always remember your name but they remember how you made them feel. I think that is something I always keep in mind. To always be respectful and to be respected. I want my work to speak for itself and I believe our business and our song catalog will reflect that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would recommend these restaurants. Locust, Chauhaun, Virago, Urban Grub, 5th and Taylor. Henrietta Red and Slim and Husky’s. In addition Assembly Food Hall is awesome and it’s a great way for everyone to get something different. I love to take people to the Bluebird Cafe, especially when I’m playing there. It’s a great listening room and great way to check out the songwriter’s behind the songs.
I love 12 South for shopping and down town Franklin is amazing as well. I love going to the wine bar on Main street and or having pastries at Merridies. The Franklin Theatre is super fun and always has something cool going on.
Brown’s Diner is my secret hang, I love going there after a write and having a burger, I’ve been going there for years and it seems like it’s been untouched by all the growth of Nashville.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Liz Morin and Ronna Reeves Showbiz Ro Music. These two are a powerhouse duo and we are absolutely thrilled to have them on our team.
