Meet Joshua Lee | Multi-instrumentalist & Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, why did you pursue a creative career?
Going into the creative field was the option for me to be the happiest. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. I never wanted to go a traditional route for it wouldnt give me the flexiblitly with my time. I constantly have melodies running through my head and figured this is a good fit haha.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had a love hate relationship with my music. I dont think my music is commercial anymore. I used to write songs to a formula but now have been happily learning to let go and not worry if its not perfect or not a typical pattern for a song. My music is my emotions and my story. I’m not here to paint the Mona lisa in it’s exact form. I’m here to splatter paint across the walls and make something different.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would plan to take them to different nature parks like Shelby or even outside the nashville area into some surrounding cities for some beautful walks in covered forests and by the Cumberland River. I would also take them to Five Points Pizza in East Nashville at some point in the visit, if not more than once.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My high school music and technology teacher Christopher Johnston from Fairfax, Va. He helped me figure out where I wanted to be and where I should go to further my music journey. I was a singersongwriter looking for guidance and he taught me the fundamentals of audio recording that helped me become a more well off artist/producer.
