Meet Joshua Brown | Pressure Washing Pastor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Taking the time to think through my why. The reasons people start a business but getting clear on why you want to do what you want to do is essential to maintain the energy and focus to accomplish what you wanna do when things get tough. A strong wine will always motivate when difficulties and distractions come.
For me, I came to the conclusion that my wife, for starting a business wasn’t about pressure washing, in all honesty there was many businesses. I probably could’ve started. It wasn’t my customer which I know sounds counterintuitive because you need customers in the home service business, but it was something more. It was the idea That the only thing I really wanted to do was provide a space for attracting great people and retaining great people. If I could hire great people, create a culture that they enjoy being a part of and pay them well then they would end up taking care of our customers and provide a great product and service.
And in order to attract great people, you have to be what you want to attract. That we can get into what makes someone a great person, but I think it starts with servant, leadership,. We’ve all been around many different leaders and I think there’s no greater leader on the planet than Jesus Christ as it relates to being the model of a servant leader.
So we lead with that. We look at Jesus as our model of what a great person looks like.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what set us apart for many is that we are a mission driven business. We exist to fulfill the great commission by equipping and mobilizing marketplace ministers. I know that’s a mouthful but we don’t think we’re here just for us. We think we’re here for others.
In life, we get to create the narrative of why we do what we do. Manny have a Y that is layered with a profits first mindset. Whenever you put profits first you’ll end up, squeezing the people, product and process so you can make profits.
It all starts with the underline mission of the organization. We really do value God and people. Our work should be the best work in the world because we’re not working for man. Or a pay check which both are fruits of the root. We’re working to glorify God. So when we wash your house or commercial building it’s not just cleaning a dirty building, it’s glorifying God through the labor of work. Work can actually be very satisfying when you’re doing it for the right reasons.
As we honor God with our work, it gives us permission to serve our customers. Our entire staff is encouraged to not just do their job, but love and show value to our customers. I think that’s one of the reasons we’ve grown so quickly. Our team genuinely cares about each other and our customers. And when you take care and love and value your customers, they do the same. Our customers are the most generous, kind people you’ve ever met. I get so many photos from the field of our guys Getting fed by our customers. Everything from stakes to tacos. It’s kind of cool to see how love works.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Portland, Tennessee has a gym of a restaurant. It’s called Milo‘s Café. They have absolutely some of the best breakfast and lunches you can get in the area. I’m starting off the day at Milo‘s in Portland and I’m having them order the Mexicano. It’s so good. Another thing I love about Milo‘s is that it makes a great spot to take your kids out on a date. They have an area that’s kid friendly, where you can read books while you eat anything from a French toast to some of the best omelettes around.
If I was in charge, the next thing we would do is head to Radnor Lake and just take a nice walk around the lake. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful places in all of middle Tennessee. You even get a chance to see an eagle or two.
For lunch, I’m probably going to Po Thai and sushi in Goodlettsville Tennessee. There’s a lot of great places and if they didn’t like Thai, I would take them to velvet tacos in East Nashville. So many good choices.
After lunch, I would go to 10 mechanical and play a ton of games for a few Hours. They have old-school arcade games, the best pinball machines around and an outside venue that is stellar. Fire pits while you’re looking at the cityscape. It’s quite beautiful.
For dinner I’m going to Edleys BBQ. For me, I like value and a great product and they have both. I don’t think you’re getting a better wing in Nashville.Period
And you gotta finish the night off with a dessert.. we are headed to the baked bear.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s one person above all others who I truly would not be here without. I wanna give my mom a shout out, Nancy Smith of Gallatin, Tennessee.
If I have permission, may I share just a little bit about her?
She’s the bravest woman I know. At two she was taken away from her mom in Kalamazoo Michigan because her mom was an unfit mom. She was adopted into a home in Madison, Tennessee, but her dad would go to prison for some of the things he was doing to her. At 15 she get pregnant with me. My dad offered to pay for my abortion, but not being in my life. Despite having no money, no family, no support she chose to give me life.
My mom gave me a chance.
