We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Ray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process, in the beginning, was to do something I really enjoy and make enough money just to support my family. As time went on, I wanted to do more. Go bigger. Provide more, for our clients and for myself, really.

What should our readers know about your business?
High Tone Entertainment is a Music/Entertainment company in Nashville, TN. Providing DJs, Musicians, Lighting & Production, Photo Booths, and other fun components for any special occasion. What sets us apart is not only our attention to client needs and details but also to deliver a unique experience that they’ll remember for a long time. Our saying is “we’re not here just to provide services, we’re here to exceed expectations”. High Tone is Nashville’s highest rated Event/Wedding Entertainment company, with over 400 Five Star reviews on Google. We’ve been mentioned in People Magazine 4 times! And we’ve received Wedding Wire’s Couples Choice Award for 7 straight years.
We got to this point by working hard, providing great customer service, and always delivering a wonderful experience. It hasn’t been easy by any means. It’s been an up-hill journey the whole way. We’ve made our mistakes for sure but always learn from them and improve each service as best we can in order to stay on top.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Nashville is such an amazing City!! Personally, I love live shows! And Nashville has no shortages of that. I’m all about concerts at the Ascend Amphitheater or Bridgestone Arena. But there’s also some great restaurants such as Bourbon Steak, Oak, & Urban Grub that are essential to check out! Then get out on Broadway! Step into the amazing chaos that is Music City and support the musicians and music venues. They are the heartbeat of our city and if you’re going to experience Nashville, you need to get out on Broadway!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people to thank for our successes. Many people who have contributed, either their time or efforts to ensure High Tone Entertainment has prospered. Starting out, I had nothing. I was broke for the most part. I didn’t have much money. All I had was personal drive. And my wife, Amy, was behind me all the way. Supporting me, encouraging me, and picking up the slack in other areas of our lives so that I could do events, network, or work to build new relationships in order to build the business. I owe her a lot for that. And as we grew and starting building a team, I can’t tell you how important they are to the continuing success of our company. They work hard every day, they actually care about the business doing well! Especially our Director of Operations, Kelcie Borton. And our Project Manager, J.R. Arostegui (aka Optimus Prime). They are EVERYTHING! They help when they don’t have to, they give input, feedback, and advice to make systems work better. They are part of the foundation that keeps us solid and upright. They both are major contributors to the overall success of High Tone Entertainment, and I couldn’t do this without them.
