Meet Josh Barrera | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Barrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Embarking on a new venture is always a thrilling and daunting endeavor, but for my wife and I (Aubrey), the founders of Fields Hollow Farm and Fields Hollow K9, it was an opportunity to turn our passions into thriving businesses. With a deep-rooted love for nature and a fondness for dogs (specifically German Shepherds), we set out on a journey that would not only bring joy and fulfillment to our lives but also enrich the community we call home.
The thought process behind initiating these two was a carefully considered one, fueled by a strong desire to create something unique and meaningful. As we pondered the possibilities, we envisioned a place where people could not only indulge in delectable baked goods but also experience the beauty and tranquility of a farmstead nestled in the idyllic Santa Fe, TN.
With the farmstead concept taking shape, we knew that offering farm fresh eggs and other goodies would be an undeniable allure for those seeking a taste of nature’s bounty. The idea of infusing our baked goods with love, using only the finest ingredients, became the cornerstone of our culinary creations. From the aroma of freshly baked breads to the melt-in-your-mouth cookies, every bite would transport customers to a place of pure delight.
But our aspirations didn’t stop there. Recognizing the demand for loyal and well-trained companions, we also decided to expand our horizons by breeding German Shepherd puppies under the name Fields Hollow K9. Our extensive research, coupled with a genuine passion for these intelligent and charismatic dogs, led us to embark on this exciting new venture. We are committed to breeding purebred, AKC healthy and happy puppies, nurturing them from birth to ensure they would become loving and loyal family members.
In the midst of our thought process, we understood the importance of building a community around these businesses. We envisioned Fields Hollow Farm and Fields Hollow K9 as not just places to purchase goods, but as gathering spots where people could connect, share stories, and find community in the serenity of the surroundings.
As we embark on this journey, we are filled with excitement, embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Our thoughtfulness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to quality will undoubtedly make Fields Hollow Farm and Fields Hollow K9 cherished destinations for all those who seek a taste of nature’s bounty and the love of a loyal companion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I (Josh) have served at a local non-profit for the last almost 15 years. I started as a camper and eventually became a Camp Director and Community Relations focusing my efforts in fundraising and development. It’s been an incredible journey to say the least but I am thankful for my time in the non-profit sector. With that being said, I am currently in the middle of a transition. Ever since I was a kid, I have had a passion for Law Enforcement. After the devastating shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, TN, I began to question if now was my time to pursue that dream of going into Law Enforcement. I am proud to say, I have accepted a position with the local Sheriff’s Office and look forward to continuing to serve our community, just in a different role.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of our favorite spots are in Columbia, TN. We often visit places such as Southern Tre, Muletown, Briarworks, Mama Mila’s. The list is pretty much endless.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and Foremost, we want to give ALL glory to God. We wouldn’t have these desires and passions without him. It truly is a humbling experience to have property in Santa Fe all the while serving our friends and community.
We also want to give a shoutout to our friends, Charlie and Jessica Richards who own Lawdog K9. They have served as mentors of our in the breeding process for our dogs.
