We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan McCray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Everyday we face difficulties and challenges which most people can careless to hear about. So, for me it was easier

to express myself without feeling like I’m being let down or ignored. I can remember early on around the time

when I wrote my first rap and rehearsed it to my uncle Pete. He told from that very moment “Rap about your life

nephew. Go listen to Tupac and what he rap about. That n***a hard dawg”! So I took his advice, and never looked

back. What i came to realize was that it relieved me more than actually speaking to someone about whatever I was

feeling. I could express it to the mic and not have to worry about someone going to another person and gossiping

about something I’d shared with them. It also brings me joy to create something apart from what everyone else is

doing. It opened up the door for me to be more creative & effective using my voice in multiple ways.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to consider myself a versatile artist. I can come from many different angles and a tell a story from my

experiences. Mainly, I like to be original and create from scratch instead of copying the style of another artist.

For me to finally get in the position I’m sitting in today was faith, hard work & persistence. I never gave in to what

people would tell me, neither did I give up on myself. I always knew what I wanted to do, I just didn’t know what all

it took other than being dedicated and putting in the work. I used to think that just making the music was the hard

part, but I found out later that you have to network, promote, perform, copyright everything, upload music, etc.

There was times I wanted to just throw in the towel and do something else, because I grew frustrated from feeling

like I wasn’t making much progress with my music. That just made me go even harder, until finally I enrolled in Full

Sail University taking online courses for Audio Production. It was a life changer! Opportunities started to present

themselves from all angles and I was able to land my first Intern position engineering at Goldie Sound Productions.

I began making all kinds of connections, performing, collaborating with other artists, and putting out my music

more. Now, it’s safe to say that i’m finally living my dream after 20 years of sticking with my passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in a small town with only one stoplight. So, we would probably jump on a cruise and go to Jamaica. If

you’ve never eaten Jamaican food it is a must have, also I’ve never been there and would love to go. I would take

them to a fancy TIKI Bar and get a plate of ox tails, red beans & rice, cabbage, fried dumplings, and plantains. I’m

personally not a drinker, so I would let my friend decide on what to drink (or sip). Of course, we would have check out

all of the places to visit on the island, especially the beach area to take pictures for memories and of the beautiful

scenery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first like to shoutout God for trusting me and instilling me with the gift and passion to be a rapper. Next, I

want to give a shoutout to my family who has always been in my corner keeping me influenced to do great things

in life. If it wasn’t for what i’ve been through in my life, I may have chosen a different path, but thanks to them it lead

me to want a better future for us and the family of my own now. No matter what we went through, we always loved

one another and remained close. Lastly, I would like to give a shoutout to the nay-sayers & doubters because y’all

gave me the motivation to keep going. I was always looking for approval trying to fit in with the crowd or please

those who I viewed as a friend. Now, I realize that I don’t have to prove to anybody except for my Creator. He is the

one that has been carrying me this entire time, and now I owe my life to him.
