We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what inspires you?
As a wedding planner, I am inspired by my couples and their love stories! There is something so humbling and beautiful about being asked to be a part of a couple’s very special wedding event. Every time I meet a couple I am being given a gift of learning something deeply personal about them. Things like their individual lives prior to meeting each other, what their life together now looks like, their family dynamics, beloved pets, their financial state of being while aiding them with their event budget, sometimes they already have children that I am blessed to meet, and most of our meetings happen via video chat so I am getting a glimpse within their private home space. I don’t take that lightly as not everyone gets to see those personal elements of other people around us and for my couple’s to trust me with that information is incredibly special to me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Hunt is Over (aka THIO) is a small business run by a dynamic married duo, Jordan and Zach Hunt. At THIO, we offer wedding coordination/planning and officiation services to our clients. We are located in Asheville, NC. We mainly serve WNC, but we are willing to travel and explore the world with our clients should they elect us to be on their team.

Our journey to business ownership came about by acting on what started as just a dream and developed into much more. In 2020 I was working as a registered veterinary technician full time while also pregnant with my 2nd child. I knew I was missing aspects of my family’s life at home and I wanted to control my schedule and protect my family time. I had wanted to pursue a career in wedding planning since planning my own wedding in 2014 and helping multiple friends with their big days along the way. At that time COVID struck and I was sent home early from work due to my pregnancy and the unknowns of the pandemic. I was 34 weeks pregnant at that time (March 2020). I was so grateful for that time as it gave me an opportunity to enjoy the end of my 2nd pregnancy, spending time with my husband and daughter and beginning to develop all of the foundational elements of my wedding business. By time my son was born in May 2020 I had everything in place and had connected with numerous vendors and venues introducing myself and learning many of the ins and outs of our local wedding community. I attribute a great deal of my success to the early development of these relationships through networking, “getting my name out there” and plugging in with others/the needs of local wedding vendors at that time.

If you are thinking about launching your own business DO IT! Put yourself out there. Don’t fly completely solo, make sure to connect with other people in a similar field to find out the needs of your area, develop your niche and then work in a complimentary manner with those around you to help all business thrive and grow together. The clients come and go, but your home base and vendor friends remain behind with you year after year, so take care of your team and support system.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout has to begin with God. Being a working mom that had originally chosen a career path in veterinary medicine I felt as though my college dream of owning a wedding planning business would always be just that, a dream. Now 4 years into owning The Hunt is Over I am so thankful that I took the leap of faith to pursue what felt like the impossible because with God all things are possible.
“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

Next a shoutout to my amazing husband Zach, without his love and support I would not have been successful in reaching my goals and growing my business. He is my rock, my encourager and my best friend.

Lastly I want to give a shoutout to my fellow wedding vendors/venues, babysitters/family members, and personal friends who have been instrumental in running my business over the years. Their kind referrals to potential clients, constructive feedback, encouragement, hours of labor while watching my kids or in-person assisting me at an event have been the wind beneath my wings. It truly does “take a village” and I am blessed to be surrounded by awesome like-minded people who support me in my dreams.
