We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonté Mayon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonté, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I believe, the most important thing I’ve done for my children was/is my introducing them to Christ. Sure, not everyone is a believer. But I think it’s important to have some “centering”. Prayer is like therapy and/or meditation. We all need a little therapy now and then. The belief in something greater keeps you humble. Humility teaches you to appreciate where you are and what you’re doing in life. These things are tools to not only teach and establish integrity but it also helps to keep you sane in the emotional roller coaster called life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer. In the words of my sweet Momma, “Jonté was born to sing”. I started as “the other soprano” in my sibling’s and I gospel singing group, “The Landrum Singers”. I was 2.5. Fast forward to 18… I started singing bgvs for a local talent in New Orleans. He suddenly had to travel abroad for work. He asked me to take over the rest of his residency at the club and I never looked back!

I’ve learned, over the years, the music industry has many, many highs. As well as MANY lows. The trick is, finding your lane and staying in it. Your success has to look like what it is in your own head. Not what the masses or other people think or want for you. You’ll cry and stress a whole lot less if you set your own goals.

In my mind, I’m a success story. I’ve accomplished every goal I’ve set. The goal may not have flourished in the way I had hoped. But I got there, had the experience, and I’m grateful for every moment.

My brand is simple. Help somebody! Help them cry it out. Help them get through it. Help them smile. Help them get over it. Help them help themselves. Help bring another perspective… all through music and my vocal delivery.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
