We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Sherwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonathan, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
5Thus says the LORD:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,
whose heart turns away from the LORD.
6He is like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.

7“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,
whose trust is the LORD.
8He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.” – Jeremiah 17

This passage reminds me to practice returning to and trusting in The Source for any creative goodness.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At the moment i’m stoked on my current top 10 single recorded by artist Bailey Zimmerman ft. Luke Combs titled “Backup Plan”. I wrote the song with one of my best friends Jimi Bell. He and I moved to Nashville together alongside our two other close friends Seth Ennis and Chris Poole (my Mabelle squad) so it’s an even sweeter victory because together we’ve been grinding in the songwriting business for the last 11 years. Of course there have been challenges along the way but with challenges come new inspiration which for me tends to turn into songs like the one mentioned above. The success of a song takes a village and i’m forever grateful for mine, from my cowriters to my publishers to every single artist that has recorded my songs and their teams that have worked to promote these songs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest, now that i’m in my child raising era I don’t make my way out on the town as much as I did in my hay day. These days we’ll grab a weekend bagel at Crieve Hall Bagel Co. or sip a cafecito in Nippers Corner at the restaurant Back To Cuba. However, the boys and I have been known to run up a happy hour tab at the bar Never Never after a day of song writing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my my wife and son, my parents and siblings, my Mabelle squad, and my first co-writer/bandmate Josh M.
