Meet Jim Belisle | Owner/Host of the Boots & Whiskey Podcast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jim Belisle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jim, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Don’t ever listen to the naysayers. There’s always someone out there that doesn’t want to see you succeed. There’s always someone out there that doesn’t think you can succeed. If you listen to those people and second guess yourself, it’s game over. I have found that if what I am doing makes me happy and my family happy, then it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or feels about what I am doing.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think what sets us apart from the others is our no nonsense style of interviews and blogging. We tell it how it is. We don’t sugar coat it, we don’t put a bow on everything. We are real. We are fans first and foremost of country music and all things whiskey, but we are also people. In the current state of country music it isn’t always acceptable to give an honest opinion, and that’s all you get from us, is honesty. We have grown to the size we are based on that. Has it been easy? No of course not, we fight for every single one of our listeners and readers. We have been able to overcome a lot with the support of our fans. We have been able to overcome a lot by the support of our guests who we have started to work with on a management and booking level because we built that trust and they know they are not going to just get a “Yes Man”. The biggest lesson I have learned in all of this, is just be you. People can see through the phony and when you’re not being genuine. That is the number one thing I want people to know about the Boots & Whiskey Podcast and Boots & Whiskey Entertainment. We are about our fans and our guests first and foremost. We are here to give an honest and clear output on the world of the country music industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man, some of my favorite spots in Nashville. Well, first I would do all the tourist type things. Country Music Hall of Fame, Tours of the Ryman and the Opry, bounce from bar to bar on Lower Broadway, the typical things you would do coming to Nashville as a tourist. But once that was over, it would be a lot of going to the Gulch, Midtown and even Greenhills. You have to try to get into the Bluebird even though it is kind of a tourist destination. You have to check out Winner’s and Loser’s in Midtown. The Listening Room is a definite. Now with all the entertainment out of the way, there has to be food. Obviously Hattie B’s, Martin’s Bar-B-Que, 3rd and Lindsey Bar and Grill. Can’t go wrong with anything I mentioned here!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s no other person that needs more recognition than my wife. She has been my biggest supporter through this journey. From covering concerts to recording podcasts she supports it all. What’s even better is when she can join me at these shows and see these podcasts being recorded. Being able to share this with her, has been the ultimate highlight for me.
