We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Lenden-Holt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
For me, finding joy and passion in what I do and focusing on a work-life integration is more important than finding a work-life balance. I believe constantly seeking to find a balance can lead us to feel dissatisfied with our efforts on both sides (career and home life). Seeking a work-life balance also suggests a separation, implying that work is an obligation and life is the reward. Instead, I focus on integrating the two and fulfilling my “why” in a more holistic approach.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Speech Therapy with Lenden-Holt, a Teachers Pay Teachers store, in hopes of bringing affordable resources to speech-language pathologists. All the items in my store are under $5. There are also over a dozen freebies and items priced at $1. It can be challenging to find inexpensive resources for SLPs and special education teachers to target functional communication goals. I love hearing feedback from customers about how a resource I created helped a child meet goals or communicate easier.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
East Tennessee has so many amazing experiences to offer. I love the outdoors, so kayaking or boating on one of our many lakes and rivers would be a must. Taking a hike on the Appalachian Trail to have lunch by a waterfall and visiting historic downtown areas and sampling local cuisine would also make the list. Visiting a theme park by Dolly Parton is definitely a unique experience, so spending a day riding rollercoasters at Dollywood would round out the weekend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that deserve recognition in my story! I have been surrounded by some incredible people throughout my journey and learned so much from others. I would specifically like to thank my colleagues and teammates at Sidekick Therapy Partners, the Bright Start crew where I started my career, and the hundreds of clients, colleagues and families I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from over the years. And a special thank you to my family that is always there to support and encourage me and willing to go along with all of my wild ideas.
